Talk about a throwback deal.

A beloved Southern California Mexican restaurant is turning back the clock — all the way to 1956 — to celebrate 70 years in Los Angeles.

Casa Vega, at 13301 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, is dropping the price of one of its signature meals to just $2.15 on Thursday, matching what it cost when the restaurant first opened in 1956.

Customers can order the restaurant’s “Uno #1 House” combo for just $2.15. The meal includes two items — enchiladas, tacos or tamales — along with Spanish rice and refried beans.

The usual price? $27.

“To have a restaurant last 70 years is pretty incredible, so my family and I, we take none of it for granted. We’re humbled, we’re honored to be such a big part of Los Angeles. This is where our roots are, and this is where our love lies, is in this city,” owner Christy Vega told KTLA.

The restaurant’s roots stretch back even further.

Vega’s grandparents immigrated to the US from Mexico and opened a Mexican restaurant called Cafe Caliente in 1936. Two decades later, her father opened Casa Vega.

The family’s deep LA ties were honored this May when the intersection outside the restaurant was renamed “Vega Square” on Cinco de Mayo in honor of founder Rafael “Ray” Vega and the family.

“It’s incredible, when you know, Casa Vega was immigrant-founded. So when a little Mexican restaurant and a little family all of a sudden gets an intersection named after them in L.A., it’s pretty special,” the owner said.

The family also recently added another tribute to Ray Vega.

In March, Casa Vega opened the “Ray Vega Patio,” a new outdoor space with a bar that can seat more than 100 people. Vega said opening a patio had been her father’s dream.

The 70th anniversary dea lwill be available from 11:30 a.m. to midnight for dine-in customers only, with a limit of one discounted plate per person, according to the restaurant.

Reservations for Thursday are already fully booked, but walk-ins are welcome.
