A passenger’s recent trek from Dallas to New York spiraled into a total travel disaster, with the traveler documenting the agonizing hours of his frustrating experience in a viral video that has struck a major nerve with fed-up flyers.

“POV: you flew with American Airlines” was the caption of Tyler Jackowski’s viral TikTok, explaining his flight from hell that left him having a “bone to pick” with the airline.

Jackowski took to his TikTok account and its 3.8 million followers to dish on the nightmare flight. The aircraft was a mere 30 minutes from landing when passengers were hit with the news that the plane was “running out of fuel” and had to divert to Philadelphia.

The aircraft sat in the City of Brotherly Love for about 45 minutes in a holding spot to refuel, with “no announcements whatsoever” keeping passengers in the dark throughout the wait.

Once the fuel was started, passengers were misled to believe they were “good to go”, but were told there was a chance that the pilots and the crew might “time out” and their day might have to end, which would keep them on the plane, but assured passengers that as long as they took off within the hour, they would be good.

Jackowski said they were informed that the staff was confident that takeoff would happen within the hour.

After finally pushing off the gate, the plane sat on the tarmac for another 30 minutes before an intercom announcement revealed the staff had “timed out,” and they had to crawl back to the gate.

At this point, Jackowski said he started looking for train tickets to get back to New York. They return to the Philadelphia gate and tell passengers not to fret, since a new pilot flying in from Chicago would be there in 45 minutes to take over.

The restless passengers continue to wait for the pilot, asking if they can just get off the plane and get their own transportation back to New York, but were told they cannot exit.

Over the intercom again, they are told they can get off the plane, but their bags are going to fly with this plane, meaning, they would not get their bags for a couple of days, maybe over a week because you would either have to get them at the airport or mail them to yourself.

People with carry-ons got off, but those with checked bags stayed. On the intercom again, they reveal “just so you know, the agent is going to have to write down every person’s name who is choosing to get off the plane and then we’ll let the captain on, and then we’ll push back.”

Half the plane was ready to leave and they were writing down names one by one, tacking on another 30 minutes.

Just when they thought the chaos had peaked, the intercom sounded again to reveal the final blow: they were actually deboarding every single person on the plane.

They deboard and get to the gate, where they will eventually have to get back onto the plane, and are told that if they have checked bags on the plane, they have to wait until they find a new pilot and a new crew, they can’t go anywhere unless they want to mail their luggage to themselves.

And the updates continue as Jackowski is filming, with them being told in the moment that the new flight attendants were assigned, but they don’t know where they are.

Jackowski captioned his video tagging American Airlines and asking “what did I do to deserve this?” And commenters hopped on the train immediately to call out the airline and the “inconvenience flying has become” in general.

“I’m so sick of Airlines pulling this crap,” ranted one user. “I’ve heard you can legally request up to 4x your ticket price for delays like this,” with another user agreeing that “they owe every passenger $400 cash.”

Another user currently getting their pilot’s license said: “they’re supposed to put enough fuel to make the trip plus enough fuel for an additional 30 mins of flying…”

Others are praising Jackowski for his “calmest crashout” and having “the most respectful breakdown I’ve ever witnessed.”

Jet fuel shortages have been an ongoing issue, leaving airline passengers fed up with delays and flight cancellations, and saying the problem does not only lie with American Airlines.

“Delta is no better,” one commenter added on the viral video with 2.6M likes. “The sad part is, we pay a lot of money for these flights yet we get treated like we are an inconvenience.”
