Summer is just around the corner, but the party’s already started over at Netflix. The streamer just released its June 2025 movie lineup, and there are plenty of classics and new releases to choose from.

Watch With Us has selected three movies you should put in your Netflix queue and watch in June. For action movie lovers, you can’t beat The American, which has George Clooney playing an assassin fleeing for his life all across Italy. Horror fans will surely dig Barbarian, a bonkers movie about — well, we can’t quite tell you what it’s about, only that it’s good, violent and has a truly shocking ending.

Our last selection is considered one of the best movies ever made. It’s pretty entertaining, too, and will seriously make you think about moving to Manhattan.

‘The American’ (2010)

After a botched attempt on his life leaves multiple people dead, professional assassin Jack (Clooney) flees to Southern Italy to hide and start a new life. But old habits die hard, and he’s soon pulled into another job that threatens not only him, but his lover Clara (Violante Placido), too. Now that Jack has something to lose, he’ll have to stand his ground and find out who wants him dead.

If you’re expecting a John Wick-style action movie, think again, as The American is more minimalist and self-consciously arty than most films in this genre. That means it’s not for everyone, but if you like slow-paced stories about men who murder and feel bad about it, The American is for you.

‘Barbarian’ (2022)

It was only a matter of time before someone made a horror movie about Airbnb. Barbarian shows the lethal downside of renting someone else’s house for the night when Tess (Georgina Campbell) and Keith (Bill Skarsgård) mistakenly book the same house to stay in. Tess doesn’t quite trust Keith, but she quickly discovers he’s not the one she should fear. Something is lurking in the basement, and it wants Tess for unknown reasons. Will they both make it out alive? And if they do, will they get a refund from Airbnb?

Barbarian is a tricky film to describe since it begins as a standard thriller and changes into something else entirely by the end. Director Zach Cregger knows just when to change gears — and genres — completely, resulting in a movie that is never predictable and always fun. If you have seen it, it’s still highly watchable, if only to see how Cregger sets up his premise and manipulates his audience like a master.

‘Rear Window’ (1954)

Does the perfect summer movie exist? Yes, and it’s called Rear Window. The 1954 Alfred Hitchcock classic remains just as effective and thrilling today as it was over 70 years ago, and there’s no better way to start the warm season than by streaming it on Netflix in June.

Jeff (James Stewart) is a daredevil photojournalist who can’t leave his Greenwich Village apartment due to an injury that’s left him in a wheelchair and bored out of his mind. One hot summer night, he thinks he sees his neighbor, Lars (Raymond Burr), kill his wife, but since there’s no body or weapon, Jeff can’t prove it. He’ll need the help of his model girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly) and nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) to find the evidence needed to put Lars away for good.

The genius of Rear Window is that it never needs to leave Jeff’s apartment to produce its thrills. His apartment window functions as a stand-in for a movie screen, with the audience as voyeurs peeking in on the daily lives of Jeff’s neighbors. The plot’s pretty straightforward, but there’s so much rich subtext in Rear Window, you may watch it multiple times to fully savor all of its pleasures.
