If you’re an action and adventure fan, then you’ll probably be very happy with Netflix‘s latest movie releases.
The king of the streamers is debuting its new action/survival horror thriller Thrash this week, and it’s likely to hit No. 1 on the movie chart.
That’s just one of the Watch With Us team’s picks for the three most popular Netflix movies you need to watch right now.
Our remaining choices include the reinvention of a classic franchise and a horror flick that feels very timely.
‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ (2017)
The curse of Jumanji enters the 21st century in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Somehow, the board game has just enough awareness to transform itself into a video game to attract young victims. In the ’90s, Alex Vreeke (Nick Jonas) was lost in Jumanji without anyone else to help him play the game. In the present, Spencer Gilpin (Alex Wolff), Anthony “Fridge” Johnson (Ser’Darius Blain), Bethany Walker (Madison Iseman) and Martha Kaply (Morgan Turner) find Jumanji and get sucked into the game world as well.
Within Jumanji, Spencer becomes Dr. Xander Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Fridge turns into Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Kevin Hart), Bethany transitions into Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon (Jack Black) and Martha is reborn as Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). Spencer and Martha are particularly happy with their new bodies, but they only come with three lives. If they lose all three in Jumanji without completing Alex’s game, then they may die in the real world as well.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is streaming on Netflix.
‘Saw X’ (2023)
Saw X inadvertently hit upon a theme that could make John Kramer (Tobin Bell) a hero: Jigsaw vs. the health insurance industry. Some people would pay good money to see that. However, John’s goals in this film aren’t quite as ambitious as that. This is a flashback story that takes place before Saw 3, as John realizes he only has a few months to live before his brain cancer claims his life.
Dr. Cecilia Pederson (Synnøve Macody Lund) and her fellow con artists lure John to Mexico and pretend to cure him using experimental medicine. When John realizes he’s been tricked, he recruits his apprentice, Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith), to help him play a little game with these crooks. If they fail, then they’ll die in the most horrible ways that John can imagine.
Saw X is streaming on Netflix.
‘Thrash’ (2026)
Do you remember the Sharknado movies? Thrash isn’t quite as ridiculous as those flicks, but it has a very similar premise as a Category 5 storm floods the mainland and leads some bloodthirsty sharks to their victims. Bridgerton veteran Phoebe Dynevor leads the cast as Lisa Fields, a pregnant woman who is trapped inside her car when the sharks swim into town.
Multiple stories of survival unfold during the film, including researcher Dale Edwards (Djimon Hounsou) and his attempts to save his niece, Dakota Edwards (Whitney Peak), and as many flood victims as he can reach. No one else is coming to save them, so they’ll have to face the sharks themselves if they ever want to make it out of this ordeal alive.
Thrash will stream on Netflix on April 10.
