Despite being dubbed an internet billionaire, it seems MrBeast isn’t secure in his finances.

“I personally have very little money because I reinvest everything (I think this year we’ll spend around a quarter of a billion on content),” the 27-year-old internet star, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, shared via X on Monday, June 2. “Ironically I’m actually borrowing $ from my mom to pay for my upcoming wedding lol.”

He added, “But sure, on paper the businesses I own are worth a lot.”

Donaldson’s candid social media post was in response to a report claiming that he became the “only billionaire under 30 to not have inherited his wealth.”

The YouTuber has been creating content for over a decade, uploading his first video in February 2012. Donaldson has since racked up more than 400 million subscribers on YouTube and 118 million TikTok followers, with an additional 73.5 million Instagram followers.

Along with his successful social media career, Donaldson has also become somewhat of a businessman. He launched the Finger on the App game in 2020 and opened the MrBeast Burger restaurant, which has expanded to over 2,000 locations.

Donaldson continued to venture into the food industry in 2024 by launching the Feastable and Lunchly brands. He’s also an investor in the tech startup Backbone and financial tech company Current.

“I don’t feel risk, if anything it excites me,” Donaldson admitted in a February interview with Forbes, detailing his success. “One of my greatest superpowers is my obsession.”

He added: “If my mental health was a priority, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am. Sometimes I feel like a robot to my businesses. I am not a robot.”

While creating a successful business portfolio, Donaldson still found time to thrive in his personal life as well. He and fellow YouTube star Thea Booysen got engaged in December 2024 and are gearing up to tie the knot.

“My family flew out from South Africa for Christmas and we were going to do Christmas in our house so both families were here,” Booysen, 27, told People in January when announcing their engagement. “We were opening presents, and then for the very last present he asked me to close my eyes because it was a surprise.”

Donaldson chimed in, adding, “I intentionally dropped a large box to make noise before presenting the real gift — with the ring inside — to her. And then I went down on a knee and proposed.”
