If you’re looking for the biggest movies and TV shows on Hulu, then you’ll find that Alien: Earth, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox and Eenie Meanie are still dominating the charts.

However, Netflix isn’t the only streamer that can surprise subscribers with unexpected popular new arrivals.

In this week alone, some of Hulu’s biggest shows are a news documentary about some very famous shoes and an Australian mystery drama that arrived without much fanfare. There’s even the equivalent of a late-night made-for-cable survival movie that’s inexplicably in Hulu’s top five.

You can find those projects in Watch With Us‘ picks for the three popular Hulu movies and TV shows that you need to watch this weekend.

‘High Country’ (2024)

High Country | Official Trailer | BINGE

High Country is an Australian mystery series set in a small town in the Victorian Alps that’s been haunted by five missing persons cases over the years. Leah Purcell stars as Sergeant Andrea ‘Andie’ Whitford, the new senior officer who has been assigned to Brokenridge. In her first week on the job, Andie discovers some unsettling clues that reignite the mystery.

Andie soon becomes convinced that there is a connection between the seemingly unrelated people who vanished. But the deeper Andie goes to uncover the truth, the more it becomes clear that she’s pushing up against closely guarded secrets that someone may be willing to kill to protect. Pursuing this case may not win Andie many friends among the locals, especially if she finds something that exposes the dark side of Brokenridge.

‘The Bayou’ (2025)

You’ve heard of Cocaine Bear, now meet the meth-gators of The Bayou. That’s not a joke, although this B-movie may give you plenty of unintended laughs. Athena Strates stars as Kyle, a young woman who knows a little bit too much about apex predators. Kyle is also trying to move on from her brother’s death by spreading his ashes in the Florida Keys alongside her friends, Alice (Madalena Aragao), Sam (Mohammed Mansaray) and Malika (Elisha Applebaum).

Unfortunately for this group, their chartered plane crashes in gator territory, and too far away for any cell phone towers to reach them. The alligators in these parts have been accidentally dosed with meth, which makes them even more dangerous as Kyle and her friends attempt to get out of the swamp alive.

‘Ruby Red Handed: Stealing America’s Most Famous Pair of Shoes’ (2025)

It’s not an exaggeration to call the Ruby Slippers the most famous pair of shoes in America. Anyone who has ever seen The Wizard of Oz knows all about the magic footwear that Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) picked up from a dead witch. Those shoes are a holy grail for numerous Hollywood collectors, but it was still a shock when someone actually stole them from a Judy Garland museum in Minnesota.

ABC News’ miniseries, Ruby Red Handed: Stealing America’s Most Famous Pair of Shoes, reexamines the theft and the search to find the people behind it. The problem with stealing these beauties is that they’re so valuable that they can’t be sold on an open market without attracting attention. But if the thieves remain undetected, then a piece of cinematic history may go with them.
