A woman in Texas has been accused of hitting her boyfriend in the skull with a hammer before leaving him to die at a church.

Abigail Molina was arrested on Thursday, February 5, and charged with first-degree murder, theft and tampering or fabricating physical evidence with the intent to impair in connection to the death of her boyfriend, Gilbert Parker.

Parker was found dead at the age of 64 at the Old Path Baptist Church in China Grove on January 18, according to KSAT. He was unconscious, partially naked and “covered in what appeared to be dried blood in a tool shed that was fabricated to be his living quarters,” according to an affidavit obtained by the outlet. Additionally, there was reportedly blood found in the garden shed.

After Parker’s body was discovered, witnesses called emergency first responders and the China Grove Police Department. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before he was moved to another hospital. Throughout the experience, Parker reportedly came in and out of consciousness and was unable to communicate.

Molina contacted the China Grove Police Department one day later and told officers that “she had nothing to hide and that it was an act of self-defense regarding an altercation that led to Parker’s hospitalization.”

Parker died two days after he was found on January 20. His autopsy determined that he had lacerations on his head, as well as one possible blow fracturing his skull bone that caused bleeding within his brain, according to court documents.

Police launched an investigation into Parker’s death and learned that his cellphone, wallet and 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck were missing, per KSAT. Investigators also said that members of the church allegedly went into the crime scene to clean up the blood and collect Parker’s belongings, which included drug evidence.

Meanwhile, one person allegedly told authorities that Parker had been dating Molina. However, they “seemed to be in different places in the relationship, and that Parker was more involved and possessive,” according to the affidavit. Additionally, the person said that the couple was known to fight.

Authorities said that Parker’s pickup truck was spotted near Molina’s close friend’s home on the day he died. She allegedly tried to spray-paint the vehicle, sand it and remove the blood stains before she sold it for $300.

While speaking to investigators, Molina “gave vague and scattered details regarding her relationship with Parker,” per the affidavit. Authorities said she claimed that the last time she saw Parker was on January 13 at a local smoke shop, where she said they got into a fight.

The case continued to develop when someone who said their cousin dated Molina called a San Antonio Police Department homicide detective on February 1 and claimed that Molina killed Parker after the fight in the smoke shop. Police received another call the following day, in which the caller claimed that the murder weapon was in a stormwater drainage culvert.

Investigators looked into the report and found a construction hammer with a claw missing, which was ultimately identified as the murder weapon.

Investigators then interviewed Molina’s ex-boyfriend, who told them she called him crying and asking for help on January 15. He alleged that she “described being hit by Parker and ‘blacking out,’ and hitting him with the hammer repeatedly.”

Following the interview, Molina was arrested and taken into court custody. It’s not currently clear if she has entered a plea or retained legal representation.

The China Grove Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
