It turns out Travis Kelce’s intimate proposal to Taylor Swift had a few extra onlookers.

Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, revealed how his son’s big moment nearly got ruined by some helpful individuals who had to quickly duck out of the way.

“They were going to go out to dinner and she was ready to go,” Ed, 74, said Tuesday, August 26, on Australia’s The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma. “[Travis] said, ‘Let’s go out in the garden.’”

According to his father, Travis, 35, suggested that he and Swift, 35, have a glass of wine on the outdoor patio at his Kansas City home before they left for dinner.

“They went out there and I think she knew something was up because as they approached, as they walked out there, she could see suddenly there’s a lot more flowers out there,” Ed said. “You see the way that’s decorated.”

Ed continued, “That was all decorated by some people that help Travis out with a lot of things. They got it all ready.”

The floral arrangements were put into place with hardly a moment to spare, which led Travis’ assistants scrambling, according to Ed.

“They actually saw [Travis and Taylor] coming,” Ed said. “They hid in the bushes so they weren’t part of it.”

Travis and Swift announced their engagement via Instagram on Tuesday, August 26.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the post read, showing off a carousel of photos from the garden proposal.

Ed revealed the engagement happened “not quite two weeks ago” in an interview with ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland on Tuesday.

“He was going to put it off till this week … but he was going to put her off till this week to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big, special event,” Ed said. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

Ed revealed that he and his ex-wife, Travis’ mom Donna Kelce, both received calls from the newly-engaged couple right after the proposal.

“They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew,” Ed told News 5 Cleveland. “So, to see them together is great.”

Ed said he was at a Philadelphia Eagles practice when he got the call.

“As soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him,” Ed recalled. “I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.”
