Norman Reedus and ex Helena Christensen’s only son, Mingus Reedus, made headlines earlier this month for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in New York City.
Mingus, 25, was arrested on Saturday, August 23, and pleaded not guilty to one count of reckless physical injury, one count of aggravated harassment and one count of second-degree harassment, per TMZ.
The following day, Mingus raised eyebrows when he walked outside his NYC apartment and said, “You want to watch me kill myself?” according to The New York Post.
Us Weekly has reached out for comment on Mingus’ arrest, but his parents, Norman and Christensen, both 56, have not publicly commented on the situation. (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon actor and the supermodel dated for five years before splitting in 2003.)

He Is a Model
Mingus, who was born in October 1999, has followed in his mother’s footsteps, beginning his modeling career as a teenager. “Originally, I [was] scouted at a music festival and asked if I had ever considered modeling,” he recalled to Vanity Teen in January. “I was 16 and very flattered, but then Cesar Perin from Unsigned Group secured my debut show, an exclusive Calvin Klein in NYC.”
Since walking in a Calvin Klein runway show, Mingus’ career has taken off. He’s been in several big campaigns and walked for designers such as Versace in various fashion weeks across the globe. Mingus also posed with Christensen for a 2021 Victoria’s Secret Mother’s Day campaign and a 2022 Marcell Von Berlin campaign for the brand’s suits collection.
“We have a lot of fun together sharing little jokes between us throughout the day. It’s good to have a secret language on set, that way you can really let the dark humor flow and my son is a master that,” Christensen told Grazia Magazine in 2022. “We have a very easy approach to it. You go do the job as fast as you can and have fun with it.”
Mingus Graduated From New York University
While pursuing his modeling career, Mingus found time to attend New York University. When he graduated from the Tisch School of Arts in May 2023, both of his parents were on hand to celebrate.
“You did it! 👏🏼♥️💫,” Christensen wrote via Instagram at the time, sharing a photo of the recent grad with his parents. She also shared a video of Mingus in his cap and gown walking the NYC streets with Norman by his side.
He Is a Music Producer
When Mingus isn’t modeling, he is working on his music as a producer going by the name Lucien, which is his middle name. He has released two songs on SoundCloud as of August, including “Million things (I could say).”
“If I wasn’t modeling, I’d like to think that I would have released more music by now,” he told Vanity Teen in January. “That’s truly where my heart is at. Producing music and singing is what I see myself doing forever.”
Mingus told Flaunt Magazine in 2022 that “making beats has really become therapeutic for me.” He explained, “Producing melodies is essentially painting, but instead of the final product showing something, it tells something — not a story, but a vibe. At the end of the day, it’s my favorite way to absolutely zone out. I must have over 400 beats on my laptop.”
He Is a Big Brother
Mingus is Norman’s only child with ex-girlfriend Christensen, but the Walking Dead alum welcomed daughter Nova in 2018 with fiancée Diane Kruger. Kruger, who began dating Norman in 2017, has spoken about Mingus’ role as an older sibling in the past.
“He’s great! You know 19 years is a big gap so he’s really stepping up to be this protective big brother,” the actress told People in April 2019.
Two years later, Christensen gave fans a glimpse at Mingus as a brother, sharing a photo of him holding Nova’s hand while walking with Norman in the Big Apple.
“Happy Father’s Day to the father of our son (and his lil sis) We raised a good one 🙌,” Christensen captioned the June 2021 Instagram post. “Though it was already Father’s Day in Denmark I wanna do a shoutout to the best, most wonderful dad in the world, mine. I love you love you love you every day of every year ♥️.”
Mingus Has Had Trouble With the Law Before
Mingus was arrested in September 2021 for assaulting an unidentified woman in New York City. He claimed to the New York Daily News that the alleged victim “swarmed out” with her drunk friends, which caused him to throw “his arm out” in defense.
Attorney Isabelle Kirshner told People at the time that the charges were “baseless,” and alleged that Mingus “was the victim in this incident.” However, he later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to five counseling sessions for the incident, according to The Sun.
Earlier this month, Us confirmed that Mingus was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. TMZ reported on Saturday that Mingus was charged with reckless physical injury, aggravated harassment and second-degree harassment. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is set to appear in court on Tuesday, August 26.
“Despite what the prosecutor said in court — which is not evidence — they [the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office] chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less. This speaks volumes, and much louder than the unsupported prosecutor’s in-court comments,” Mingus’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement to Us.
She added: “Equally important, the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume. Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty.”
