Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage has come to an end after nearly two decades, but what do their lives look like in the wake of divorce?
“Their schedules have remained the same throughout their marriage,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “There’s nothing new or different in that regard that has caused them to grow apart.”
Both Urban, 57, and Kidman, 58, are currently focusing on their respective careers, the insider adds. The country singer has been on his High and Alive World Tour, since May, with performances lined up for his Las Vegas residency and is busy working with Gretchen Wilson and Blake Shelton for the CBS reality show The Road.
“He is all over the place, all the time,” the source explains of Urban’s hectic schedule. “He’s been away on tour since June and in Australia for August.”
Kidman, for her part, has been balancing her countless projects while being there for her children. (Kidman and Urban share teen daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14. The Oscar winner is also mother to kids Isabella, now 32, and Connor, now 30, whom she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise.)
“Nicole has always been able to be a force with work and be a constant presence in her children’s lives,” the source says. “She’s at the top of her career, but she’s also a working mom who still prioritizes her children. I don’t think you can compare her schedule to any other working actor.”
In the last few years, Kidman has starred on hit TV shows like Big Little Lies (which just got officially greenlit for a third season), Nine Perfect Strangers and The Perfect Couple. She also appeared in 2024’s Babygirl and A Family Affair. Her film Holland, meanwhile, premiered earlier this year, and she recently wrapped production on Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock.
It was Urban and Kidman’s busy schedules that had an impact on their separation as they were “moving in two different directions,” the source tells Us.
“Nicole had been trying to get them to work on their marriage and did not want this to get out to the public. She didn’t tell many friends what was really going on with them and was holding this in for months,” the insider explains. “They had both been spending a lot of time apart due to work commitments and have been living separate lives. Her and Keith were not on the same page.”
Us confirmed on Monday, September 29, that Kidman and Urban separated after 19 years of marriage. The twosome tied the knot in 2006 after connecting the prior year.
One day after their split made headlines, Kidman filed for divorce. According to court documents obtained by Us at the time, Kidman cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup and requested to be named the “primary residential parent” of her and Urban’s daughters.
The docs also included a marital dissolution agreement, which was signed by Kidman and Urban. The pair’s agreement included a parenting plan, a child support plan and a “parenting seminar order.” Both Kidman and Urban agreed to retain their assets and waived their rights to spousal support and child support. However, a clause in the divorce docs stated that Urban has “prepaid all child support obligations.”
According to the plan submitted to the court, Sunday and Faith will spend 306 days out of the year with Kidman and 59 days with Urban, which includes every other weekend. The exes agreed to make all major decisions regarding their children as a team. Kidman will have the “final decision-making authority“ in the “unlikely event that the parties do not agree on a major decision for either minor child,” per the plan.
