Leonardo DiCaprio went viral earlier this week for an unfortunate reason while vacationing in Ibiza.

According to video footage obtained by The Daily Mail, DiCaprio was stopped and searched by Spanish authorities as he attempted to enter an Ibiza party thrown by Elite actor Arón Piper and tequila brand Patron on Saturday, August 9.

DiCaprio, who was dressed casually in a black T-shirt and pants as well as a baseball cap, seemed bewildered in the footage as police patted him down during their search.

Why Leonardo DiCaprio Was Patted Down in Ibiza

A source clarified to Page Six that DiCaprio wasn’t singled out by authorities, though it has been reported that local officials did not immediately recognize the Oscar winner. DiCaprio was accompanied by his girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, and their friends Joel Edgerton and his partner, Christine Centenera, who were all searched by police before being allowed into the glitzy party. The outlet reported all guests were patted down and ID’ed before entering the venue.

Who Else Attended the Party?

Once inside the Ibiza bash, the two couples were able to mingle with a high-profile guest list that included DiCaprio’s longtime pal Tobey Maguire and Kendall Jenner.

DiCaprio, Ceretti, Maguire and Jenner were also guests at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s multi-day wedding celebration in Venice, Italy, in June. While Maguire mostly kept out of sight during the weekend, DiCaprio, Ceretti and Jenner were frequently photographed while taking water taxis to various festivities. (DiCaprio and Ceretti have been together since 2023.)

DiCaprio and Ceretti reportedly kept a lower profile at a pajama-themed wedding reception to cap off the weekend. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that the “insane dance party” featured live music from DJ Cassidy and Usher, and was decorated with velvet couches and lounge chairs to fit with the PJs theme.

“[DiCaprio] was under the radar with his girlfriend [Ceretti]. He was doing his thing and was enjoying the music,” an insider told Us.

Elsewhere during the wedding weekend, DiCaprio was photographed on multiple occasions seemingly trying to avoid the paparazzi by covering his face with a baseball cap. This tactic proved to be unsuccessful as photos of DiCaprio covering his face ultimately went viral and spawned numerous memes.

The notoriously private DiCaprio recently gave a rare interview to his close friend, One Battle After Another writer and director Paul Thomas Anderson, for GQ, where he insisted that he still feels youthful after turning 50 in November 2024.

“Well, [turning 50] creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time,” DiCaprio said. “I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress. I look at my mother [Irmelin Indenbirken, who turned 82 in February], for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.”

He went on, “[You’re] more upfront and risking having things fall apart or risk the disagreements or risk going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life — the personal, professional — it’s that you just don’t want to waste your time anymore. You have to just be much more upfront. It’s almost a responsibility because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you.”

He also candidly revealed that his biggest professional regret was turning down the leading role in Anderson’s 1997 movie Boogie Nights. (Mark Wahlberg was eventually cast as porn star Dirk Diggler in the Golden Globe Award-winning comedy-drama.)

“It was a profound movie of my generation,” DiCaprio told the filmmaker. “I can’t imagine anyone but Mark in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece.”

DiCaprio and Anderson finally are working together on One Battle After Another, an action thriller revolving around a mercenary enlisting several members of his former revolutionary group to help him find his missing daughter. The star-studded project — which also stars Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Benicio del Toro and Teyana Taylor — opens on September 26.
