Democratic women are far more likely to blame men for their problems than conservative women are — and less than a quarter of young Republican men blame their ills on women, a recent survey found.
Young Democratic women were particularly likely to lay the blame for their problems at men, with 66% of 18 to 29-year-olds saying “the challenges that women face in American society” were “a great deal due to the behavior or actions of men,” according to the Survey Center on American Life.
They also said women faced “a lot” of discrimination in America, the poll found.
But far fewer Republican women felt the same way — with just 18% blaming men for their problems in the US.
Those disparities generally shrank as women grew older, with fewer Democrats blaming men and more Republicans blaming them.
Between ages 30 and 49, 54% of Democratic women blamed men for their problems while 33% of Republicans did. And from ages 50 to 64, 47% of Democratic women faulted men and 25% of Republican women did.
But the disparities between the two parties were still huge — Democratic women between 18 and 29 faulted men at rates 50 points higher than Republican, 30 points higher between ages 30 to 49 and still 20 points more between 50 and 64.
And the complete opposite was true when men were polled about the problems they faced in American society — with Republican men more likely to blame women for their problems than Democratic women.
At least 26% of Republican men aged 18 to 29 blamed women for their problems, as did 21% aged 30 to 49 and 21% between 50 and 64.
And while Republican men were significantly less likely to blame the opposite gender than women were, the disparities were still high.
Young Republican men blamed women for their problems at a rate 20 points higher than Democratic men did, and at similar differences among those between 30 and 49.
There was still a 10-point difference among Republican and Democratic men aged 50 to 64, and they only began to even out above 65 years old with 15% of Republican men blaming women and 11% of men.
The poll is just the latest to find men and women across the political spectrum appear to be drifting further and further apart — and that the phenomenon does not belong to the US alone.
An April survey from the New Statesman reinforced the Survey Center on American Life’s findings about how younger women viewed the opposite sex — with 21% of Gen-Z women under 30 having negative views of the opposite sex.
Just 7% of Gen-Z men, meanwhile, had a negative view of women — with 72% reporting a positive view of them.
And a 2025 survey from the Universities of Göttingen and Jena in Germany found 47% of left-leaning women would rather stay single than date somebody with opposing political views.
Right-leaning women felt similarly, with 41% choosing to go solo rather than reaching across the aisle for love.
