Tamar Braxton wishes The Real looked a little different when she first launched the show.

While appearing on the Wednesday, May 15, episode of The NeNe Leakes Show, Braxton reacted to NeNe Leakes’ claim that she was originally picked to cohost the show before Loni Love took her place.

“I wish they would have told me,’ Braxton, 48, said. “I wouldn’t have cast big back Cadillac. We’d probably be in our 10th season by now. Thanks. Ain’t that dumb?”

While Braxton clarified that “it’s no shade,” the laughter on set and Leakes’ decision to immediately sip a drink proved the comment was enough to raise eyebrows.

“I was asked to be on The Real, and this was the beginning of the process of them casting,” Leakes, 57, explained earlier in the show. “I’m sure it was Tamar and the other girls, but I was asked to be one of the first girls of the show … and I ended up not doing The Real. They ended up casting Loni.”

As for why Leakes turned down the gig, she claimed it was because she was swamped with filming The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Bravo.

“Yeah, I knew you wouldn’t like me first. I’m just kidding,” she joked. “I was on Real Housewives of Atlanta, so I just did not do The Real, but Tamar ultimately did The Real.”

The Real kicked off in July 2013 with Tamera Mowry, Jeannie Mai, Adrienne Houghton, Braxton and Love, 53. In May 2016, however, news broke that Braxton was leaving the show after two seasons.

The Real and Tamar Braxton have mutually decided that Tamar will not be continuing with the show for its upcoming third season,” Tamar and a The Real rep said in a statement to E! News. “She will be leaving in order to concentrate on her solo career. Everyone associated with The Real appreciates Tamar’s efforts and the contributions she has made to the show’s success, and we wish her all the best for the future.”

The news seemingly caught her cohosts by surprise, with Love explaining via Facebook that “there was no indication that Tamar was going to be let go…We genuinely all like each other.”

Days later, Braxton sparked rumors that her exit wasn’t as friendly as it may appear.

“I love u all but I have been stabbed in the back by someone I stupidly trusted (not my man or my sisters). I am not about to be tried and tested to snitch,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “But know that every one who smiles in your face is NOT your friend and is NOT cheering for you and will LIE and try and tear u down to TRY and dim your light.”

The Real would continue through June 2022. During the series finale, Houghton, 41, Mai, 46, and Love were still cohosting alongside The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais.

Us Weekly has reached out to Love’s reps for comment.
