The 2025 Emmy Awards crowned a new Outstanding Drama Series winner.

The Pitt took home the award during the Sunday, September 14, ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

“This is insane thank you so much to the Academy. I want to thank everyone at Warner Bros. Channing, for believing in the show from the get-go. Sara, Casey and Joey at HBO Max for nurturing and supporting out show,” creator R. Scott Gemmill said in his acceptance speech. “To our amazing cast and crew and writers and directors we wouldn’t be here without you guys.”

Gemmill also dedicated award to the all the healthcare workers and first responders.

“Respect them, protect them, trust them,” he said. “Thank you.”

Eight nominees competed for Outstanding Drama Series: Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses and The White Lotus.

Of the Outstanding Drama Series contenders, Severance landed the most overall nominations with 27. Prior to Sunday’s awards show, the Apple TV+ series won Outstanding Title Design, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score), Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour), Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour) and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Merritt Wever at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

The White Lotus followed closely behind Severance with 23 nods, securing a trophy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music ahead of the ceremony on Sunday.

The Last of Us received 16 total nominations, with an early win for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour).

Andor trailed with 14 nods. Earlier this month, the Disney+ show received accolades for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie and Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes at the Creative Arts Emmys.

The Pitt, meanwhile, earned 13 nominations and early wins for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Shawn Hatosy and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.

As for the remaining contenders, Slow Horses, Paradise and The Diplomat’s overall nods totaled five for the Apple TV+ series, four for the Hulu show and two for the Netflix drama.

Five of the 2025 Outstanding Drama Series nominees were up for the award before, with nods for Severance in 2022, Andor, The Last of Us and The White Lotus in 2023 and Slow Horses in 2024. However, none of the shows had won the category in past years.

Recent winners of the Outstanding Drama Series award include Succession in 2020, 2022 and 2023, The Crown in 2021 and Shōgun in 2024.
