The death of a teenager who was pulled from a Kentucky lake after going missing during a boat party with her friends was accidental, a grand jury ruled.
There was no evidence of a struggle or a traumatic injury after the body of Marly Kinney, 19, was pulled from Grayson Lake, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Barry Brandon Bradley announced in a press release Wednesday.
Kinney’s personal items, such as her bathing suit and jewelry, were intact and undisturbed, according to the prosecutors.
The medical examiner’s findings “were consistent with drowning,” but her postmortem blood alcohol concentration was noted at 0.268%, the attorney said.
Ryan Blanke and Isabelle Addis, both 21, were charged with third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor for allegedly giving her alcohol before the fatal accident, Bradley announced.
Kentucky State Police previously charged Cameron Conley, 23, with operating a boat while intoxicated or under the influence in connection with the incident, according to kentucky.com.
“Investigators found no evidence that Kinney’s death resulted from criminal conduct, and the Grand Jury sought no criminal charges in connection with her death,” Bradley wrote.
Kinney, of Ashland, first vanished at around 4 p.m. on June 24, before she went overboard on a rented pontoon boat to use the bathroom.
Her group of roughly 10 friends didn’t initially realize she was missing, according to investigators.
“The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Kentucky Department Fish and Wildlife extend their deepest condolences to Ms. Kinney’s family, friends and loved ones,” Bradley concluded.
“We recognize the profound loss they have experienced and hope that the conclusion of this investigation provides some measure of clarity and closure.”
