Beauty buffs are as split as this look.
Tabi nails — decorative fingernail art that mimics the split-toe style of the popular, albeit polarizing Tabi shoe — is cutting to the front of the line as the cool season’s hottest glam craze.
But its fractured features have social media divided.
“Not f- -king with the tabi nail trend,” tweeted a detractor on X, rejecting the Maison Margiela-inspired design. Others online have called the outre style: “This is horrendous.”
The hate echoes similar criticisms garnered by the French fashion house’s Tabi shoes.
Margiela debuted the avant-garde architecture — rooted in 15th-century Japanese fashion — on its runway in 1988. And it’s a look that continues to slay as controversial couture among millennial and Gen Z fashionistas, today.
Fans of Tabis have willingly broke the law just to get their hands on a pair, while haters have deemed them “goat shoes,” owing to their hoof-like structure.
Tabi nails, too, come with animal-ish pizzaz.
The silhouette works best with medium-length, rounded or oval nails, artist Ramon Duran told PoshSugar, explaining, “you need that extra space for the design to really come through.”
“You can technically do them shorter,” he added, “but the look feels more elevated with a bit of length.”
The signature split-toe cut is made with the needle bit of a drill at the top of each nail.
Daredevil divas hoping to achieve that look can deck their nails out other color and finish of choice — be it matte, 3D, gel or accessorized with a bow, said Duran.
“Then I seal everything with a top coat to make sure the edges are smooth and clean.”
And fashionmongers are eating it up.
“A+ for Creativity,” raved a supporter of the style on TikTok.
“First in my lineage to see this kinda swag,” cheered another.
“THE TABI [NAIL] IS FIIIRREEEEE,” an equally impressed glamor gal.
