Prince Harry is returning to the U.K. on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death for a cause that’s close to home.

“Prince Harry will be celebrating 20 years of the WellChild Awards in London,” the national charity shared in a statement via X on Thursday, August 28. “The event, in association with @GSK, honors the inspirational achievements of seriously ill children and the people who care for them.”

The Duke of Sussex, 40, shared a statement of his own, posted via the WellChild social media accounts.

“I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit,” he said. “For 20 years these Awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a light on the devoted caregivers who support them every step of the way.”

Harry has been a patron of WellChild for 17 years and attends the charity’s awards ceremony annually. This year’s event is set to take place on Monday, September 8, and will feature a speech from Harry during the ceremony. (Elizabeth died on September 8, 2022, at age 96.)

Next month’s trip marks the first time Harry will be traveling across the pond since losing his appeal for government-funded security in April. Harry has been fighting to reinstate protection in the U.K. since he and wife Meghan Markle stepped away from their duties within the royal family in 2020. The couple’s security measures have been decided on a case-by-case basis following their departure.

Days after the legal loss, Harry publicly reignited the feud between him and his family by sitting down for a bombshell interview with the BBC. The duke alleged his father, King Charles III, played a part in the loss of his appeal.

“There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he said at the time. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what is necessary.”

Harry also issued a plea to his family with hopes to mend their relationship, claiming that Charles “no longer speaks to me.” (It has been widely reported that the father-son duo could possibly reunite during Harry’s upcoming U.K. trip.)

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said, referring to Charles’ cancer diagnosis. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
