A spokesperson for Prince Harry has clarified the nature of his recent reunion with his estranged father, King Charles III.

Harry’s rep told People in a Saturday, September 27, statement that it is “categorically false” that the king, 76, treated his youngest son like an “official visitor” during their meeting at Clarence House earlier this month, addressing reports claiming the reunion was “distinctly formal” in nature.

“While we would have preferred such details to remain private, for the sake of clarity, we can confirm that a framed photograph was handed over, however, the image did not contain the Duke and Duchess,” the rep added in the statement.

Harry, 41, and Charles have been estranged since 2020, after the Duke of Sussex and wife Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties as senior working royals and moved to California. Harry visited his father on September 10 during his recent trip across the pond, marking the first time in nearly two years the two have been together in person.

“The meeting was sparked by a handwritten letter from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his desire to reconnect,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of what led to the pair’s long-awaited reunion. “They were not sure it was going to happen until just in the last week.”

According to the insider, Harry and Charles’ meeting was “super positive and very relaxed.”

“They were catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health,” the source told Us, referring to Harry and Meghan’s two children. “There were hugs and tears at the meeting.”

Days later, Harry opened up about what it was like seeing his father after two years.

“The focus [this year] really has to be on my dad,” Harry told The Guardian, referring to Charles’ ongoing battle with cancer.

The Spare author further offered his hopes to spend more time in London.

“I have always loved the U.K. and I always will love the U.K. It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about,” Harry told the outlet. “I have been able to spend some time with people that I have known for so long. It is hard to do it from far away.”

After Harry and Meghan, 44, moved to the United States, the duke fervently fought for his family — including kids Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — to have enhanced security protections whenever they traveled abroad to England. He lost his appeal earlier this year.

“Yes, I would,” Harry told The Guardian when asked if he’d want to travel abroad with Archie and Lili. “This week has definitely brought that closer.”

Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024, quickly inspiring Harry to fly from California on his own for a visit.

“I love my family,” Harry said on Good Morning America in February 2024. “The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could.”

After each visit, Harry has come home to wife Meghan and their children. Upon his return from his September trip, the married couple stepped out at the One805LIVE! concert on September 20 in support of California first responders.
