Face it — your eyes are playing tricks on you.
Dr. Dean Jackson, a biologist and BBC presenter, shared a puzzling image on TikTok of an alleged optical illusion, claiming it contained a creepy, hidden face.
The photo is seemingly innocent, showing a sweet image of two little girls sitting in a field.
But as Jackson reveals, there’s a third face in that image that most people won’t be able to see at first glance.
Only 1 in 10 people will be able to see that face when holding their phone at a normal distance, Jackson claimed.
If you can’t see it immediately, Jackson shared a way to help you find it.
First, prop your phone up against something, then turn your back on the phone, walk away five paces and turn around. With this method, Jackson said 9 out of 10 people will now be able to see the third face staring back at them.
If you walk further away, about 10 paces, now 95% of people will be able to see it.
Viewers on TikTok who spotted the hidden face called the illusion “scary.”
“Is it only me who got jumpscared?” one person said in the comments after finding the vanishing visage.
“Couldn’t see it then, when the video replayed and I looked up, it shot out at me and actually made me jump a bit,” said another.
“Oh, nah, that’s scary, I don’t like that,” a user wrote alongside a crying emoji.
As Jackson explained in the caption of the video, “pareidolia is seeing faces when none exist. It is dependent upon distance from the image.”
