Tucked away in North Hollywood, a tiny Mexican restaurant is serving up a burrito that locals rave about for only about eight bucks.
Tacos Manzano has built a loyal following, with Yelp reviewers praising the neighborhood spot and its burritos. One recent five-star reviewer called the food “crazy good” and said the asada was so good he ordered another burrito. Another simply declared, “Their burritos are amazing.”
Others describe Manzano’s as a “valley staple” and a “really special” neighborhood spot.
But one of the biggest surprises may be the price.
A bean and cheese burrito costs $7.49 before tax. The total on The California Post’s receipt came to $8.23.
The made-to-order burrito starts with a tortilla toasted on the griddle. Beans and shredded cheese are added before it returns to the heat to melt the cheese and toast the tortilla. Customers dining in also get chips on the side and access to a complimentary salsa bar.
Alisson Jovel, who walked The California Post through the process as cook Alice Casare assembled the burrito, said keeping an inexpensive option on the menu is important.
“I think it’s important to the restaurant to have something cheap so everybody can choose,” Jovel said.
Customer Vanessa Ruiz was sold on both the burrito and its price.
“I really, I really like it,” Ruiz said after trying it.
“I think the price is good for the size of the burrito,” she added, saying it was enough to fill her up. “So the price is good.”
For Angelenos looking for a filling meal without a double-digit price tag, this NoHo hole-in-the-wall still delivers: $7.49 before tax and $8.23 out the door.
