An Ohio husband who claimed his wife stabbed herself 17 times to death after she told him she wanted to separate has been charged with her murder following a four-month investigation, according to police.

Kyle Long, 35, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly murdering his wife, Rachel Long, inside the couple’s half-a-million-dollar London, Ohio, home just after 4 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2025.

He told police that his 32-year-old wife and the mother of their two daughters had returned home from work before she went into the master bathroom as he worked at his desk.

Kyle Long claimed that he then witnessed Rachel stabbing herself repeatedly in the neck and face a short time later, according to an arrest warrant viewed by The Post.

Rachel Long was discovered on the bathroom floor next to the toilet in a pool of blood with what appeared to be stab wounds to the neck, face, arms and hands, the court record stated.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police ordered Kyle Long to strip out of his clothes so they could test the articles for DNA and document any injuries on his body.

He was subsequently brought to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for questioning, where he revealed his wife had asked to separate from their marriage.

Officials did not reveal how long it was between the separation request and Rachel Long’s death.

During the investigation, officials recovered text messages between Rachel Long and a friend moments before her death that didn’t show any signs of suicidal thoughts as the two women discussed the outfits they were wearing to a concert the next night.

A four-minute gap between the last text message and a 911 call from her husband’s phone helped narrow down the order of events that took place inside the home, police alleged in arresting documents.

Kyle Long claimed he never called 911 twice — despite his phone log revealing he had placed a call four minutes before a second call connected to the emergency dispatch.

In a second round of questioning, Kyle Long provided “conflicting” answers that didn’t correlate with his initial statements and the evidence found inside his home that indicated a “struggle between two individuals,” police said.

A 360-degree scan of the house clued investigators into the scene at the time of the stabbing and found Kyle Long couldn’t have seen his wife stabbing herself from where he claims to have been sitting.

Additionally, he claimed his wife had solely used her right hand to stab herself.

An autopsy on Rachel Long’s body uncovered multiple “defensive” wounds along with cuts to her right arm and hand that would’ve been impossible for her to make if she was only using her right hand.

At least 17 “sharp force injuries” were discovered on Rachel Long.

Rachel, who ran her own pet grooming service, was remembered for her love of animals.

“An animal lover at heart, she also was active in rescuing dogs. She was an avid reader and loved attending rock concerts,” her obituary read.

Her death was ruled a homicide by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Kyle Long, accusing him of “purposely causing the death of Rachel.”

He is being held on a $1.5 million bond. No plea was entered into the case as of Saturday.
