A New York State trooper was rushed to the hospital after his cruiser was rear-ended during a traffic stop in Westchester County early Sunday morning, police said.
The trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Mamaroneck around 5 a.m. when a 2007 Chevy Suburban smashed into the back of his car, state police said in a press release.
Police identified the driver of the Chevy SUV as Kevin Ariel Cunache Moyolema, 24, of Connecticut, but said no charges have been filed but said an investigation is underway.
The unnamed trooper was hit when the rear-ended cruiser slammed into the state police vehicle, which then smashed into a 2025 Mercedes-Benz sedan that had been pulled over earlier, the release said.
The officer was rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, treated for minor injures and released.
The 52-year-old driver of the Mercedes, identified as Siiyer Walker, was checked by EMS at the scene and declined medical attention, while Moyolema was taken to the medical center with “minor body pain.”
Police did not say why Walker had been pulled over or if he was issued any summonses.
A second trooper at the scene was not injured.
