An NYPD sergeant was shot in the head while responding to a domestic incident in the Bronx on Thursday night, according to sources.
The unidentified cop was responding to a domestic dispute at a residence near Paulding Avenue and East Gun Hill Road just before 10:30 p.m. when shots rang out, law enforcement sources said.
The officer was struck when an individual involved in the dispute fired through the door, sources added.
The cop was brought to Jacobi Hospital and is undergoing surgery, one source said.
The officer’s condition is not immediately clear.
A suspect was taken into custody, sources said.
The NYPD warned New Yorkers to stay clear of the area as they investigate the crime scene.
“Due to a police investigation, please avoid the area of Paulding Avenue and East Gun Hill Road in the Bronx,” the department posted on X.
