The Astronomer cheating scandal infamously revealed at a Coldplay concert has now inspired a book — and everyone already wants to read it.
Two writers working at Galatea, an online reading app, published a novella titled Caught on the Jumbotron on Friday, July 25, loosely based on the now-viral drama.
“When Ellie discovers her husband — tech CEO Derek Brighton — locked in a scandalous embrace with his head of HR live on the Jumbotron at a Goldray concert, her world implodes,” a book summary reads. “Heartbroken, Ellie walks away from the betrayal — and straight into the spotlight. Enter Leo Voss, the undeniably sexy, tattooed lead singer of Goldray.”
The logline continues, “What starts as a backstage encounter turns into a whirlwind romance. He’s a leather-clad rock god. She’s his new muse. Together, they’re unstoppable. But as Ellie rediscovers her voice, the media frenzy surrounding her reaches a fever pitch. Then Leo’s ex-wife reappears, and Ellie must risk another public heartbreak. The last thing she needs is to make her life messier. Will she choose a love that doesn’t play by the rules?”
Less than 24 hours after Galatea debuted the new book, readers flocked to click on the story. It has been read 15,800 times at the time of publication, according to a press release. The 12-chapter work of fiction also includes not-so-subtle nods to Coldplay itself, with each chapter title named after a different song from “Sky Full of Stars” to “Fix You” and “Viva la Vida.”
In real life, the then-CEO of tech company Astronomer, Andy Byron, attended Coldplay’s July 16 concert in Massachusetts. He was spotted wrapping his arms around a woman later identified as Astronomer’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot, when band frontman Chris Martin introduced a jumbotron segment to meet the concertgoers.
As soon as Byron and Cabot realized they were seen on the kiss cam, they quickly ducked out of frame. Martin, 48, then theorized that the couple was involved in an extramarital affair. (Cabot and Byron are both reported to be married to other people.)
“Whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You’re OK,” Martin quipped at the time, per social media footage. “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy. I’m not quite sure what to do.”
Neither Byron nor Cabot has publicly addressed their relationship status or the scandal. Us Weekly has reached out for comment.
However, Astronomer confirmed to Us later this month that both Byron and Cabot quietly resigned from their positions at the organization.
