Nicolas Cage attended the premiere of his new film, The Surfer, as his ex Christina Fulton dismissed her assault lawsuit against him.
Cage, 62, hit the red carpet in Austin, Texas, on Monday, March 10, dressed in a sparkly black suit, a black fedora and rose-colored sunglasses. In the psychological thriller, set to be released in theaters on May 2, the Oscar-winning actor plays a man who battles a local gang of surfers for control of a secluded Australian beach.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Monday, Fulton’s lawsuit was dismissed in its entirety three days prior, with prejudice — meaning it cannot be refiled.
Last month, Cage was named in a lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend for his alleged involvement in a physical fight with their son, Weston. Fulton, 57, had filed court documents claiming that Cage ignored Weston’s mental health concerns and enabled his reportedly troubling behavior.
Us confirmed in July 2024 that Weston, 34, was arrested for felony assault following an alleged incident the previous April. He was subsequently released on bond and pleaded not guilty to assault.
At the time, Fulton was reported to have suffered injuries in the incident when she tried to get Weston help amid a “mental health crisis.”
In her February court filing, Fulton alleged that Cage had not intervened to try to assist their son.
“Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals,” Fulton’s court filing read. “Nicolas has been aware of Weston’s history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others.”
According to Fulton, the actor had also allegedly bailed Weston out of jail on occasion and paid for the rent on Weston’s Los Angeles condo. Fulton accused Cage of aiding their son’s “reckless” lifestyle and neglecting to ensure that he had “necessary psychiatric” help.
“Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability,” Fulton’s lawsuit claimed.
Cage has denied the allegations.
“The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous,” he said in a statement to Us. “Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.”
Fulton previously explained that the incident with Weston arose from a verbal fight that turned physical.
“On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m. I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help,” Fulton exclusively told Us in July 2024. “When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage.”
Fulton told Us at the time that she “was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental health evaluation, the police officers refused my request and neglected my urgent need for my medical attention.”
Cage has not publicly commented on Weston’s legal troubles. The actor welcomed Weston with Fulton in December 1990, but the duo split soon after his arrival. Cage has since welcomed son Kal-El with his third wife, Alice Kim, whom he divorced in 2016. He married Riko Shibata in February 2021. The couple share a daughter, August, who was born in 2022.
