Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s off-field drama will play out on camera in season 2 of Netflix’s Quarterback.
In the trailer, released on Monday, June 23, headlines splash across the screen about the robbery at Burrow’s Ohio home in December 2024.
“Somebody tried to break into Joe Burrow’s house,” a clip from ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show says.
Burrow’s home was burglarized when he and he and the Bengals were in Texas to play the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
The quarterback’s rumored girlfriend, model Olivia Ponton, was at the residence at the time of the break-in and was responsible for calling the police.
In January, four men were arrested in connection to the robbery.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by CNN, the suspects were pulled over for a traffic violation when officers found “an old LSU shirt and Bengals hat, believed to be stolen from the December 9, 2024 burglary in Hamilton County.”
All four of the men pleaded not guilty to charges of participating in a criminal gang, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, obstructing official business and possession of criminal tools.
In February, the same four men were also charged with participating in a string of robberies that targeted athletes like Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.
Elsewhere in the Quarterback trailer, Burrow, 28, admits his life is “not normal” and discusses his recent purchase of a $3 million replica Batmobile.
“I’m pumped about that,” Burrow says.
The quarterback, who was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Bengals in 2020, also candidly discusses the weight on his shoulders.
“You only have so many of these seasons,” Burrow says in the trailer. “You start out your career, you’re like, ‘OK, I’m going to be playing for 15, 20 years. It seems like a lot. And then you blink your eye and you’re in year five. Next time I blink my eye is going to be year 10.”
He adds, “Now where we’re at, the great ones make it work.”
The second season of Quarterback also features the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff, who was traded to the Motor City in 2021 after spending the first five seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Rams.
“A lot of people in my former organization may have thought I was being cast away, but I saw the opportunity I had here was special,” Goff, 30, says in the trailer.
Goff adds, “This is what it feels like to truly be wanted.”
The second season of Quarterback also follows the Atlanta Falcons’ Kirk Cousins, who was featured in season one while playing for the Minnesota Vikings alongside the Kansas City Chiefs’ Mahomes and then Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Season 2 of Quarterback premieres July 8 on Netflix.
