Nervous Gen Z driver does the unthinkable in order to pass driving test: ‘Technically, not breaking any rules’

With her driving test looming, 19-year-old Tash Phillips went full DIY on a roadblock — literally.

Posting a clip to TikTok of herself and her mother lugging leafy branches earlier this month, the caption screamed, “I NEED TO PASS THIS TEST.”

The Gen Z woman (@tashphillips24353) and U.K. resident further explained in white text over the clip, “POV your driving test is tomorrow so you went to cut down a tree as it was blocking your view.”

“There was a junction that was really dangerous to pull out of, so we decided to cut down a few branches to improve our view and to make it safer,” Phillips told Newsweek of her and her mother’s decision.

The teen said that her driving instructor came up with the plan — and her mom was all for it too.

Phillips noted that the tree removal wasn’t just for her — it “helped the whole community as the council wouldn’t chop it down.”

The TikTok clip has racked up millions of views and over 555,000 likes, with hundreds of users chiming in on how they’d tackle pre-test prep.

“So real, I saw someone say that their dad parked in a spot where they had trouble parking, so they didn’t ask them to park there…” one user in the comments explained, as another said that they solved their problems “by having my test during rush hour, 20 mins wasted in stationary.”

Someone else commented, “Technically, you’re not breaking any law or borough/state rules… you’re just taking care of your community.”

One other supporter wrote, “I’m here for the Mum storming down the street with the branches, making sure her girl passes that test. What a legend.”

In the end, the DIY branch hack paid off — Phillips told Newsweek she nailed the test.

And it’s not just driving tests, Gen Z can’t tackle solo lately. As The Post previously reported, young workers under 27 are wading into corporate life with mom and dad on standby — ready to catch them when onboarding hits a bump, according to eyebrow-raising new data.

“Over three-quarters of Gen Zers (77%) say they have brought a parent to a job interview when they were job searching,” according to ResumeTemplates, a virtual career-planning hub.

Nearly 80% of Gen Z admit their parents meddle at work, from attending interviews to haggling for raises and days off, with 44% bringing mom or dad to in-person meetings and 29% to both virtual and live sessions.

From chopping trees to calling the boss, Gen Z might just be the first generation raised by TikTok — and their parents — to pass every test, on the road and in the office.
