South Carolina congresswoman Nancy Mace is publicly reacting to Lindsay Clancy’s high-profile murder trial.
“If postpartum mental illness becomes a get-out-of-jail-free card for murdering your children, then by that logic, anyone diagnosed with it should lose custody of their kids,” Mace, 48, wrote via Facebook on Wednesday, September 2, sharing footage from her appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored discussing the trial. “You cannot blame this murder on anyone or anything else.”
Clancy, 36, was charged with murder following the deaths of her three children in January 2023. (Lindsay and ex-husband Patrick Clancy shared Cora, Dawson and Callan, who died at 5, 3, and 8 months, respectively.) After strangling her kids, Lindsay jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt and is now paralyzed from the waist down.
Lindsay has never denied killing her three children, but pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder with her defense team arguing that she should not be held criminally responsible due to her documented postpartum mental health struggles.
Mace, a single mother of two, further addressed Lindsay’s trial during a recent broadcast on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
“I think it’s so interesting how conservative women are completely supporting the pharmaceutical industry. Lindsay Clancy was suffering,” another panelist claimed. “Now all of a sudden we’re in support of the pharmaceutical industry? There [are] serious questions here.”
Mace, meanwhile, pointed out that during the trial, experts claimed that Lindsay hadn’t been taking her prescribed medication.
“I believe that she was experiencing a complete postpartum psychosis,” the politician’s fellow panelist theorized. “I know women who have experienced actual tearing in childbirth that causes extreme psychosis in women, so we have to be having these conversations. Is it an excuse for her to kill her children? Absolutely not.”
While the individual believes “the act of killing those children is evil,” she argued that the case should prompt a broader conversation about medications that they are allegedly “causing people to do.”
“They’re so easily accessible,” she added.

A Massachusetts judge prepared to declare a mistrial on Friday, September 4, after the 12-person jury remained deadlocked and failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
“With a heavy heart, we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision. We will not be able to,” a note from the jury read.
The judge, at the request of Clancy’s attorney, noted his intentions to allow the defense one hour while they pursue an emergency stay from the Supreme Judicial Court.
