The home of Nancy Guthrie has been taped off as a crime scene again as the search for Today cohost Savannah Guthrie’s mother continues.
“Right now — investigators are putting crime scene tape back up at Nancy Guthrie’s house,” News Nation reporter Brian Entin wrote via X on Wednesday, February 4. “Major police presence here — K9s and search teams.”
In a follow-up tweet, Entin shared that there was a “grid search happening in the wooded area around Nancy Guthrie’s house right now.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Us Weekly on Wednesday that authorities “received a report of a possible trespassing” near Nancy’s home, which is currently being reviewed as are “all other cases within a close radius.” Law enforcement is also “working in conjunction with the FBI.”
“While our detectives have turned the home over to the Guthrie family, this is still an active investigation — so you may see activity in the area during this process,” the PCSD told Us.
Nancy was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, by a family member who called 911. The Guthrie family confirmed the news the following day.
“We can confirm this is a missing persons case, and the family is working closely with local law enforcement,” the Guthrie family said in a statement to NBC News on Monday, February 2, adding that they are grateful for “the outreach, thoughts and prayers” sent their way.
According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Nancy’s daughter Annie Guthrie was the last person to see her before her disappearance. (Nancy shared daughters Savannah and Annie and son Camron with late husband Charles, who died at age 49 following a heart attack.)
Nanos claimed that Annie didn’t raise any “red flags” about her mother’s behavior before she went missing. The officer alleged that family members “weren’t alerted to her [missing] until about 11 in the morning” the following day, with police being called around 12:15 p.m.
“This is an 84-year-old lady who is safe in her own home asleep, and she is taken. That should never happen,” Nanos told Us, noting that Nancy takes medication and “going without her meds can be fatal.”
The sheriff’s department shared on Wednesday that they have not identified a suspect or motive despite an unverified report claiming Savannah’s brother-in-law and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, was considered a potential suspect.
“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” read a statement from the police department. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation. No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time.”
Savannah has been absent from the Today show amid the ongoing search for her mother. The anchor spoke out about her mom via Instagram on Tuesday, February 3.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” Savannah wrote. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
