Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like Home — Depot, that is, insists an overwhelmed mom of an energetic tot.
“Reminder: toddlers love Home Depot for some reason. It also opens at 6:00 a.m.,” declared Brooke Malcher, a mom of two under age 2, from San Diego, Calif., in faddish footage of her son gleefully exploring the hardware hub.
The little one’s big day out at the big box store scored 3 million virtual views, as well as hordes of praise from moms in full support of taking tikes to the atypical amusement park.
Move over DIY dads and single ladies on the hunt for husbands, the tool shop is rising as the pooped parent’s secret weapon in the fight against fatigue.
Parental burnout, extreme exhaustion spurred by the demands of child-rearing, is currently at a fever pitch, effecting well over 57% of modern mothers and fathers across the US, according to a 2026 report.
It’s a plague sparked, in part, by the endless call of duty.
“Unlike a job with defined hours, parenting operates continuously. You can’t clock out, take a vacation day, or resign,” noted study authors of the 24-hours, 7-days-per-week gig. “Parenting uniquely lacks the boundaries that make other roles manageable.”
“When you’re burned out as a parent, your children are still present, still needing care, still requiring emotional and physical labor.“
Enter, Home Depot.
For moms who value playtime over screen time, the stimulating allure of the appliances, greenery and materials that line the aisles of the home improvement shop are tops.
Lily, a mom and homeschool teacher, best known as “Silly Ms. Lilly” to her 229,000 Instagram followers, proved as much during a recent trip to the suddenly en vogue venue.
“POV: You’re a mom and it’s 95-degrees, so you take your toddler to Home Depot as a fun morning activity and to learn lots of first words,” she titled scenes of her son scampering around the mart, hailing it for offering, “fun sensory exploration like [the] lights aisle, fuzzy rugs to touch, and motor skills like the appliances with many doors to open and close.”
Malcher echoed similar sentiments with rave reviews of the mommy-and-me go-to.
“Home Depot saving us when we’re bored and it’s too hot to go outside,” she captioned the clip as fans lauded and applauded her “genius” mommy hack.
“It’s the world’s biggest busy board,” cheered a commenter beneath the post.
“We have Montessori at Home… Depot,” another joked, likening the hands-on educational approach to the hands-on fun of touring the supplies hotspot.
“All I see is sensory play. Good job!,” saluted an equally impressed onlooker.
“Toddlers AND husbands,” teased another of Home Depot’s indiscriminate magnetism. “It’s enrichment time for the whole family.”
“Is this a children’s museum?????,” wrote a stunned mom. “Free entry??? I’m in!.”
