The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Miranda McWhorter is breaking down where she stands with Shinia Powell after her friend slept with Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex Dakota Mortensen.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 4.

“I think the Taylor and Dakota of it all was definitely a contributing factor, especially since I was very vocal about how her pursuing that relationship would affect her and would affect me, and it felt like it was just blatantly disregarded on multiple occasions,” Miranda, 27, exclusively told Us Weekly of Shinia ahead of the season 4 premiere, which aired on Thursday, March 12.

She continued, “Also, I understood where Taylor was coming from with her frustration as well. As things continue to play out, I think other things unfolded, and it just made that decision easier.”

While Miranda didn’t share more details about her friendship fallout with Shinia, she noted that her decision to side with Taylor is “based on a lot more” than what viewers will watch in season 4.

“But we’ll see that play out more,” she teased, adding that she considers Taylor a friend today.

Tensions came to a head on season 4 of Mormon Wives when MomTok learns that Miranda’s longtime friend Shinia and Dakota have been intimate amid his on-off relationship dynamic with Taylor. (Dakota and Taylor welcomed son Ever in March 2024. She’s also mom to daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, whom she shares with ex-husband Tate Paul.)

Taylor, for her part, became frustrated with Miranda for being friends with Shinia and not telling her the news immediately — before seemingly offering Miranda an ultimatum about her friendships.

“If I hear she’s besties with her, I’m cutting you too,” Taylor said during a phone-call with MomTok. “And anyone defending her is no friend of mine ever again. Ever.”

As Miranda became emotional after the phone call, Mayci Neeley asked, “So you feel like you have to choose now?” Miranda replied, “Yeah. … It’s just, Shinia has been a better friend to me than Taylor ever has.”

“Taylor giving me an ultimatum on choosing her or Shinia is frustrating because I’m not your partner and I’m not your child. I’m your friend,” Miranda said in a confessional. “And I’m pretty sure that Taylor is not going to like my decision from where I’m standing right now.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming now.
