Michelle Williams and her husband, Thomas Kail, enjoyed a night out at the 2025 Emmy Awards after the arrival of their third baby earlier this year.

The actress, 45, and the director, 48, attended the Sunday, September 14, awards show at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles amid her multiple nominations for Dying for Sex. Williams wore a floor-length, gauzy white gown decorated with cascading ruffles. The one-shoulder look was finished with a twisted strap that ended in a short train. Kail, meanwhile, opted for a classic white jacket with black pants.

Williams received nods in two categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Molly Kochan — a cancer patient on a journey of sexual exploration — on Dying for Sex and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series for her work as an executive producer on the FX on Hulu show.

Williams is competing against Disclaimer’s Cate Blanchett, SirensMeghann Fahy, Black Mirror’s Rashida Jones and The Penguin’s Cristin Milioti for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, while Dying for Sex is nominated alongside Adolescence, Black Mirror, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and The Penguin for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

For Williams, this year has been filled with both professional and personal triumphs. People reported in April that she and Kail welcomed their third baby via surrogate approximately six weeks earlier.

The couple — who secretly tied the knot in March 2020 — were already parents of son Hart, 5, and a 2-year-old whose name has yet to be revealed publicly. Williams is also the mother of daughter Matilda, 19, with her late ex Heath Ledger.

In August, Williams shared rare comments about her family during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, giving a “big shout-out” to her surrogate, Christine.

“This last baby did not come out of my body,” she told guest host Tiffany Haddish. “The miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. Thank you, Christine!”

Williams also opened up about juggling parenting and a busy work schedule.

“I have, thanks to Christine, three under 5 at home,” she said. “Everything’s good and under control. I’m the adult.”

“It’s good, it’s good. It’s just really busy,” she continued. “I’m just trying to figure out the life-work balance, and you know, I hear a lot of people talking about self-care, and I’m just wondering, ‘When?!’ Because I’m a working mom, and so I already have the guilt and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand I need to fill up the tank.”

Williams joked that she finds her alone time at the Social Security office.

“I recommend a midday appointment because it’s a little bit more crowded, and then you can claim your rightful place at the back of the line, where they will let you wait in complete silence for at least one hour,” she quipped. “Bring, like, a nail file and to-do list, and like, check, check, check.”
