Liam Neeson is a proud father to two sons: Micheál Richardson and Daniel Neeson.

Liam and his late wife, Natasha Richardson, tied the knot in 1994 and welcomed Micheál in 1995, followed by Daniel in 1996.

After Natasha’s unexpected death in 2009, Liam’s primary focus as a father was “making sure they were OK.”

“Everybody just pulled together,” Liam said in an interview with People in October 2024, noting that his mother-in-law, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister-in-law, Joely Richardson, were “extraordinary” with their help. “We were fortunate in lots of ways.”

Liam is still close with both of his sons, who live nearby him in New York. They even attended the premiere of Liam’s latest film, The Naked Gun, in July 2025 alongside Pamela Anderson’s sons, Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee, in the Big Apple.

Anderson and Liam’s kids both showing up at the NYC premiere further fueled romance rumors between the duo. They made headlines earlier that month at The Naked Gun’s London premiere when Anderson kissed Neeson’s cheek.

Micheál Richardson

Liam and Natasha welcomed their oldest son, Micheál, on June 22, 1995, in Dublin, Ireland. After Natasha passed away when he was only 13, Micheál later opened up about struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.

“In my mind, subconsciously, I either pushed it out or stored it deep inside,” he told The Sunday Times in March 2015. “And so, within the next week I was like, ‘OK, on with my life.’”

Although he pushed it down for a while, things eventually “started going downhill.”

“The people I was with, we were partying a lot,” he explained to the outlet. “It was dark. I hit rock bottom. Everybody said, ‘This kid has lost his mum, that’s where the problem comes from.’ And I was like, ‘No, it isn’t, I just like to party.’ But looking back I realize it was a delayed reaction.”

Micheál picked himself back up with wilderness therapy in Utah, where he got sober by eating dehydrated food in the Utah desert for months.

Following his journey to sobriety, Micheál became interested in acting — which he said his mom would be proud of.

“She never vocalized it, but I know that my mum liked the idea of me becoming an actor,” he gushed to The Sunday Times. “She would have thought that was cool.”

Micheál went on to star in several movies and shows, including two movies with his dad: 2019’s Cold Pursuit and 2020’s Made in Italy. The latter hit close to home to Micheál’s own life as it was the story about an estranged father and his son trying to get a fresh start on life after losing his wife.

“I really wasn’t expecting it,” Micheál told Observer in an August 2020 interview. “I had done a few things with Dad before — I was in Cold Pursuit with him very briefly. There was a part of me that was thinking, ‘OK, I maybe want to distance myself from working with Dad again.’ I don’t, at the start of my career, want to be tied with the idea of, ‘Oh, here’s Liam Neeson getting his son a role again.’ It can easily come across like that. But what are you going to do when a script like this comes around? It’s so close to home and the parallels between the story and our life are so personal.”

Micheál has also continued to honor his mom throughout his life, including changing his last name to her maiden name to honor her.

“He’s taken, officially, the name of his mother. He’s Micheál Richardson, not Micheál Neeson,” Redgrave told the Daily Mail in October 2018. “That wasn’t because he wanted to avoid his father’s fame, which is enormous. He wanted to hold his mother close to him — because she was a remarkable actress. Absolutely remarkable.”

Daniel Neeson

Following Micheál’s birth in 1994, Liam and Natasha welcomed Daniel on August 27, 1996, in New York City. Daniel graduated from Tulane University in 2019, where he received his degree in theater and digital media production, according to his LinkedIn.

In 2017, while in college, Daniel started his own eco-friendly clothing line called Pine Outfitters, which he said Liam was “not just a supportive father but he’s been very supportive in terms of the business as well.”

After ending the brand in 2022, Daniel and his friend Adam Millman launched an additive-free tequila brand called De-Nada.

“I come from a family that, hospitality is at the forefront of importance,” Daniel told the Irish Star in a January 2025 interview. “My father and my mother were always about treating your guests, your family, your friends with the utmost respectful experience.”

Throughout the years, Daniel has continued to honor his late mother, including on the anniversary of her death in March 2024.

“15 years since you’ve left this plane onto forever more,” he said in a post via Instagram at the time. “I look forward to re uniting one day but for now I take solace in knowing you’re beside me every step of the way. Hopefully, I’m making you proud. I think you would definitely be proud of my margarita skills. She was the OG margarita mama! As a kid, I used to ask her for a sip of hers, and she would gently say not till you’re older. Little did she know I would one day start my own tequila brand and have way too many margaritas as my finger tips.”
