Martha Stewart’s experience working with Matthew McConaughey was short but memorable.

The two worked together on an Uber Eats commercial that aired during the 2025 Super Bowl in February, and Stewart, 83, admitted that McConaughey scared her.

“So I just worked with your costar, Matthew McConaughey,” Stewart told Kate Hudson during the Tuesday, March 11, episode of her eponymous podcast, causing Hudson, 45, to ask if he was “wild.” (Hudson previously worked with McConaughey in the romantic comedies How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold.)

“He got me scared actually,” Stewart replied, eliciting a laugh from Hudson. “There I am, I’m a board member of Uber Eats and I’m the one who’s making the Caesar salad, and Matthew — he had to play many characters in that commercial. He is a method actor, I think.”

Hudson asked, “Of commercials?” to which Stewart clarified, “Of characters. Because he had to play 10 characters, and he got into each character, it takes him about 15 minutes.”

“He’s grunting and breathing and jumping up and down,” she continued. “And that scared me.”

In one of the many football-themed commercials that McConaughey has shot for Uber Eats, he stood in the kitchen with Stewart as she prepared a Caesar salad in what he called a “super” bowl. He also portrayed legendary football coach Mike Ditka, a football executive and other characters in spots for the brand.

The Running Point star seemed to understand where Stewart was coming from, mimicking the grunting noises and telling her, “He’d make weird sounds. He makes sounds and does crazy things.”

“You probably just wanted to tell him to shut the hell up,” Stewart quipped.

“You just wait. It’s like his warmup,” Hudson replied, quick to add, “We have so much fun when we’re working. It’s been a long time.”

Hudson admitted that “McConaughey is one of “the most fun people to work with” for her, noting that they are both “very competitive” by nature. “And so we have this thing when we’re working together that’s really fun,” she said.

Despite the good-natured ribbing that the pair directed at McConaughey, both women agreed he is “fabulous” to work with.

Hudson has talked glowingly about working with McConaughey before. The two of them reunited on Instagram in 2023 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, where they both spoke about their working relationship.

“When you went one direction, I went with you,” she recalled at the time. “But then I would be like, ‘I’m gonna throw him off a little bit. Let’s see what happens if I do a sharp right.’”

“What tickles me doesn’t bruise you; what tickles you doesn’t bruise me,” McConaughey replied. “We were never afraid to push it to what might be considered too far.”
