Martha Stewart has embroiled herself in a hole new controversy.
Bagel etiquette is a religion to natives of the New York City metro area — which is why the Jersey City-native is being ordered to “repent for [her sins.”
While some choose to eat their bagel like a sandwich and others opt for an open-face method, the 84-year-old home and garden icon eats her bagel in a way that purists have called “unhinged.”
Stewart took to Instagram on Dec. 12 to share the unconventional way she eats a bagel — a method apparently taught to her years ago by her 60-year-old daughter, Alexis.
She starts simple — cutting the bagel in half. Then she takes half of a half, or a quarter, and breaks it into “sweet little pieces.”
The lifestyle guru then tops each of those pieces with a “modicum” of flavored or unflavored cream cheese.
Stewart claims that this method leaves her “always satisfied” and “never too full,” adding that it’s “very satisfying to eat a bagel like this.”
She further insisted that the bagel “has to be” from PopUp Bagels, which seems fitting considering the Connecticut-founded bagel chain is known for its “rip and dip” technique.
Naturally, bona fide bagel lovers are “against this nonsense,” accusing her of pushing “straight-up boomer diet culture” — or that, surely, a “pigeon [wrote] this” post.
“Put her back in jail,” one declared.
“Queen Martha, this is a violation of the bagel code of ethics,” another echoed.
Following the social media schmear campaign, Stewart returned to Instagram, claiming it was all a ruse.
“CAN’T ANYONE TAKE A JOKE?????? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!”
