An elderly man was killed and his son seriously hurt as a raging fire ripped through their Long Island home late Sunday, authorities said.
Barry Garfman, 82, was with his 42-year-old son, Dustin Garfman, inside the multi-family home on Depot Road near Leyden Street in Huntington Station when the inferno erupted around 11:15 p.m., according to Suffolk County Police.
Five fire departments responded to the scene, but the elder Garfman could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene, cops said.
His son was rushed to Huntington Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
Photos from the scene show plumes of heavy smoke billowing from the top floor windows of the home.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday, but it did not immediately appear criminal in nature, police said.
