Is the bridge gonna have a monster-in-law on her hands?

A woman with a medical condition was blasted by the groom’s mom ripped her for bringing her own food to a wedding, as detailed in a viral Reddit post.

“She confronted me and said I was ’embarrassing the family,’” said the 36-year-old wedding guests of her diet-shaming session, which occurred during the nuptials of her good friend from college.

The Reddit poster was “excited to celebrate” the special occasion, the only caveat being that she suffered from a “medical condition” that prevented her from eating foods with gluten and dairy.

She didn’t specify the nature of her condition, although people with celiac disease have adverse immune reactions to gluten, which can damage the small intestine and thereby make lactose difficult to digest.

“It’s not a fad diet or a preference, I get very sick if I eat them,” said the woman, who mentioned her malady “on the RSVP card where it asked about dietary restrictions.”

Despite her disclaimer, the bride said the venue “couldn’t guarantee anything gluten- or dairy-free because of cross-contamination,” but she hoped she’d get by “with the salad and fruit.”

Unfortunately, this option apparently didn’t suffice with her bestie, who decided to surreptitiously bring her own vittles.

“I didnt want to cause trouble, so I just quietly brought a small container of safe food in my bag (literally just grilled chicken and rice),” she recalled. “When dinner was served, I discreetly went outside for 5 minutes, ate it quickly, then came back in to join everyone.”

She added, “I didn’t make a scene, didn’t bring smelly food, didn’t take anything away from the event.”

Unfortunately, the groom’s mom caught her in the snack-t and badmouthed her to other guests, claiming that the poster was “disrespecting the caterer” and “making the couple look cheap,” per the post.

She even confronted the involuntarily picky eater at the reception and accused her of embarrassing the family, claiming that she should’ve eaten beforehand if there was an issue.

The Redditor recounted to Newsweek how the mother-in-law also laid into her for eating by the wall en route to the bathroom “like a homeless person.”

The poster explained that her medical condition required her to make special adjustments to avoid getting sick, but the mother “rolled her eyes and said I was selfish.” The scornful parent added that the wedding was “about the couple, not about your diet.”

Unfortunately, the future-husband’s mother wasn’t the only one dismissing her dietary choice. “Some of our mutual friends also agree that I made an a–hole move and made the couple look bad,” said the Redditor, who asked the commenters if she was the problem for bringing her own grub.

Many agreed that she was in the right. “You took care of your own needs,” wrote one defender. “That’s it. Is it somehow respectful to eat food that would physically harm you? LOL. No.”

They added, “The groom’s mother is looking to make trouble where it doesn’t exist. Ignore her.”

A second advised the OP to warn her bestie that she might have a future monster-in-law on her hands. “If I were the bride, I would carefully take note of MIL’s big red flag,” they wrote. “Since OP is a friend of the bride, this could be a sign of troubles to come.”

Another thought the bride was partially to blame, writing, “yeah, the bride didn’t feel particularly concerned her friend would have something, let alone enough, to eat. She gets some side-eye from me for that.”
