It’s a dog and phony show.
Leftist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker set off a firestorm of criticism Wednesday as he was accused on the internet of activating a shock collar on his dog — an allegation he has denied.
The controversy erupted during a livestream on Tuesday after Piker was railing against the quality of the internet in Los Angeles.
As the hard-left talking head declared, “I hate this f–king country so much” — his dog, Kaya, stirs from her apparently assigned spot for the first time during the multi-hour stream.
Piker then promptly reprimands the dog as she looks to step down from a platform with Piker appearing to press a button on his desk — at which point Kaya yelps and scurries back to her spot.
“Jesus Christ, what are you doing?” he said after the dog cried out in pain, adding, “You’re being such a baby.”
The 34-year-old then blamed his mother for Kaya’s crying, saying she “spoiled” the dog.
Later during the stream, he said that Kaya cried aloud because she “stepped funny” or “clipped her foot on something,” Forbes reported.
Scores of Piker poo-pooers and pooch proponents alike took to the internet to lambast what appeared to be harsh treatment of a helpless and innocent animal — including many who shared memes depicting a drastic electrocution of Kaya.
Piker acknowledged that he used a behavior modification collar for Kaya during a Wednesday stream but insisted that he did not shock his dog.
“This is one of Kaya’s many collars,” he said while making a show of calling the dog over sweetly and removing the neck binding strap. “This is the one that people are talking about.”
Piker claimed, while holding it up for view, that the collar has a “vibration” setting and not a shock setting.
The streamer even went so far as to activate the vibration mode while holding the object in his hand.
He further asserted that he did not activate the collar’s vibration function, and insisted that Kaya likely just hurt her dewclaw while moving around on the platform.
Piker could not be reached for comment.
