KISS legend Gene Simmons was reportedly involved in a recent car crash in Malibu, according to NBC Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reportedly told the outlet that Simmons, 75, allegedly crashed into a parked car just before 1 p.m. in the 25000 block of Pacific Coast Highway on Tuesday, October 7.
After a witness reportedly called 911, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department explained that Simmons spoke to first responders, claiming that he passed out or fainted before hitting the parked vehicle.
When contacted by Us Weekly, L.A. County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the crash but did not release the identity of the driver.
Simmons was reportedly hospitalized after the crash, however, his wife, Shannon Tweed, shared with NBC4 Investigates that the musician was discharged and is currently recovering at home.
Tweed, who has been married to Simmons since 2011, claimed that doctors recently changed his medications and that he needs to drink more water. She also alleged that his SUV crossed across several lanes of traffic in the crash and that, as the rocker said, her husband passed out behind the wheel.
Us has reached out to Simmons for comment.
Simmons has previously opened up about his heart condition, atrial fibrillation (AFib).
“I had never heard of the term AFib, but about 10 years ago, we were on tour someplace, and onstage the temperature goes up about a hundred, with all the stage lights,” he said on an episode of The Doctors in March 2016. “I started to get dizzy and perspire and short of breath. So I called a doctor, and he showed up and said, ‘OK, here’s what’s going on. There’s something called AFib,’ and he went down the list. And it was a lot to take in.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, AFib is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm, which can increase the risk of stroke and other heart-related complications.
Simmons explained in March 2016 that he had not had “recurring problems” with his heart before because he gets “lots of rest and drink[s] lots of liquids.”
“But am I prone to AFib? You bet,” he said at the time.
Simmons was one of the original members of the legendary rock band KISS, alongside Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. After KISS concluded their final tour in December 2023, Simmons started a new band called the Gene Simmons Band with Brent Woods, Zach Throne and Brian Tichy.
“I tried to stay away from being on stage, but it’s too much fun,” Simmons told Ultimate Classic Rock in an interview in March. “I thought I was gonna take a few years off after the band I was in for 50 years decided to call it quits. I have other stuff — a restaurant chain, a movie company, a lot of stuff.”
The Gene Simmons band features songs from KISS, some of Simmons’ own solo releases and covers of other bands including Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.
“We toss around songs; if somebody in the band says, ‘Hey, why don’t you do [Cream’s] ‘Sunshine of Your Love?’ we look at each other and go, ‘What key?’ and there you go,” he told the outlet. “We have conversations and bring kids up on stage, teenage musicians. It’s just about having a good time.”
