Princess Kate Middleton appeared to debut a lighter hair color for the upcoming seasonal change.

The Princess of Wales, 43, sat beside husband Prince William as they drove to a service on Sunday, August 24, at Scotland’s Crathie Kirk, which is located near the royal residence of Balmoral.

Kate and William’s three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — were also present in the car while King Charles III and wife Queen Camilla arrived in a separate vehicle.

In the photo, Kate donned a dark coat and matching hat as her long locks glimmered in the sunlight. William, meanwhile, sported a navy suit with a light blue tie.

Kate has appeared to add more highlights since showing off a lighter hair after celebrating her and William’s 14th wedding anniversary in April and attending Wimbledon in July.

Hairstylist Jennifer Korab weighed in on Kate’s lighter looks, telling Marie Claire earlier this year, “This blend of brunette and blonde tones is one of the biggest trends right now because it adds soft dimension, a sunlit glow, and natural brightness, perfect for the warmer months.”

Korab noted that Kate’s hair color is a “a chic, low-maintenance way to go lighter while still looking polished, sophisticated, and effortlessly modern.” Korab added that Kate’s shade was “a stunning and timely transformation.”

Since Kate stepped into the public eye, she has rocked several different hairstyles through the years. At her 2011 wedding to William, Kate stunned in a half-up, half-down hair do and completed the look with a lace-trimmed veil, diamond tiara and Alexander McQueen dress. Years later, Kate beamed in an off-the-shoulder black floral-printed Alexander McQueen gown and a beehive updo with volume for the 2017 British Academy Film Awards.

In 2020, a source told The Sun that Kate — who is now in remission from an undisclosed type of cancer — began dyeing her hair during the COVID-19 pandemic and giving her children haircuts. (Kate shared in 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and immediately stepped back from her public-facing royal duties as she underwent chemotherapy. Later that year, Kate announced that she completed her treatments.)

“Kate does use a home color on it from Richard,” the insider said at the time, referencing royal hairstylist Richard Ward. “She would normally be given products from his salon between her appointments with him. But for this lockdown the package was rather larger than usual.”
