A Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing will examine what Republicans are calling Joe Biden’s “Watergate.”
“What we confront today, the Biden administration’s ‘Arctic Frost’ scheme, is not a single act,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who chairs the subcommittee, said in opening remarks.
“It is a modern Watergate, trading a break-in at one office for a digital sweep into approximately 100,000 private communications.”
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who chairs the Judiciary Committee, released dozens of pages of internal DOJ records ahead of the hearing showing that former special counsel Jack Smith had subpoenaed Kash Patel’s phone records, texts as well as credit card and bank information.
Patel, then a private citizen, is now director of the FBI.
The subpoenas of Verizon for documents related to the future top law enforcement official were made under a Non-Disclosure Order (NDO) signed off by a federal judge.
