Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) cruised to victory after controlling the race from start to finish, claiming another Sprint victory that pushes him closer to clinching his maiden MotoGP championship.
Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) settled for second place despite excellent pace after a Turn 1 mistake forced him to fight his way back up the field for another Sprint podium finish.
The reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished in fourth place after being overtaken by Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) who earned a third place finish in the Sprint.
Bagnaia struggled in the closing stages of the race, dropping positions while a massive crash left Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) out of the Sprint.
Martin’s victory increases his gap at the top of the leader board as Bagnaia falls short of the Prima Pramac’s speedy pace around the Phillip Island Circuit.
The championship leader got off to a great start from pole position, defending Marquez off the line who ran wide heading into Turn 1.
Marquez tumbled down the order to 10th place while riders like Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Bastianini shot up the pack to fight the championship rivals.
It was all running smoothly for Bagnaia, jumping Bezzecchi for second place, until Marquez crawled back into the picture to disrupt the fun.
An intense four-lap battle wore down Bagnaia but powered up Marquez who eventually squeezed past to claim second place while Bagnaia lost two positions in the closing stages.
Bastianini had an excellent Sprint race, climbing from 10th place to third after preying on a vulnerable Bagnaia who was struggling with his tyre pressure.
A fierce battle saw Bezzecchi and Vinales suffer a huge crash heading into Turn 1 on the final lap, skidding straight into the gravel.
RIDER OF THE DAY: MARC MARQUEZ
Marquez made an unfortunate error during the opening lap, running wide after Martin aggressively blocked his move around Turn 1.
Despite this mistake that dropped him to tenth place, it only took the six-time world champion ten laps to work his way back up to the podium.
The Spaniard put up a great fight with Bastianini and Binder, overtaking the two riders in a fierce charge up the field.
Setting up great opportunities for overtaking, Marquez forced his way around Bezzecchi after an intense battle saw them trade positions.
After many desperate attempts, Marquez squeezed around Bagnaia in the Sprint’s third act and began to cut the gap down to the race leader.
There is never any doubt that no matter where Marc Marquez starts, he is set to find a way on the podium.
