The Dawson’s Creek cast didn’t want to wait for their lives to be over before getting back in touch.
The WB show’s stars — James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and others — are back in contact after not speaking for several years after the teen drama came to an end.
Van Der Beek, 48, reflected on getting the chance to reconnect with his former costars on the Thursday, March 20, episode of Jana Kramer‘s “Whine Down” podcast, sharing, “I’ve gotten in touch with them recently and it’s just been so nice.”
Van Der Beekdidn’t specify who he reconnected with but said it felt like old times to hear from everyone again.
““It’s just been so great to talk to them and catch up with like who they are now this many years out and to have that shared experience from back in the day,” he noted. “It’s just so lovely every time I get to catch up with one of them.”
The actor revealed that the Dawson’s Creek cast hasn’t always been in touch. “We all went our separate ways and just didn’t speak for years because we were just living our lives and doing our things,” he added. “And to just kind of reconnect and be like, ‘Oh, wow, I love who you’ve become.’”
Dawson’s Creek, which aired from 1998 to 2003, centered around Joey Potter (Holmes) who was navigating school after the death of her mother. She subsequently ended up in a love triangle with Dawson Leery (Van Der Beek) and best friend Pacey (Jackson). (In addition to the trio, the hit series also starred Michelle Williams, Meredith Monroe, Busy Philipps and more.)
After taking a break from discussing the show that catapulted him into fame, Van Der Beek said on Thursday that he has enjoyed talking about Dawson’s Creek now.
“I have such a nostalgia for it,” he shared. I don’t know whether it’s just time or what, but yeah.”
The only question Van Der Beek isn’t a fan of? Whether he is “upset” that Joey ended up with Pacey instead of Dawson.
“That question I hate,” he admitted. “Because honestly as an actor, I didn’t really have that big of an opinion on it. And everybody wants me to come down on one side.”
Van Der Beek clarified that he appreciated the fan investment but could see why the choice makes “sense.” Jackson, 46, meanwhile, has shown his support for his character Pacey ending up with Holmes’ Joey.
“I am the advocate!” he quipped to Entertainment Weekly in 2022. “I had a whole conversation with [series creator] Kevin [Williamson] about this. Like ‘Look, I get it. This is the idea that you had in your head [to have Dawson and Joey end up together], but I’m just gonna ask you to watch the tale of the tape and this is the more interesting end for these characters.’”
