Hilary Duff claims she once received an unexpected visitor during a psychic reading.
“I talked to this psychic on the phone, and she doesn’t know who you are when you call,” Duff, 38, said on the Wednesday, April 1, episode of the “Las Culturistas” podcast. “Eventually, she figured it out and she was, like, ‘Are you Hilary Duff?’”
According to Duff, she occasionally seeks readings with a medium to “validate the path” she is on in her personal and professional lives.
“I’m not living by it, like, firmly,” Duff stated. “I’m just like, ‘Let’s have fun with this.’”
During one of her appointments, the psychic immediately saw a few people waiting to speak with Duff.
“I was, like, ‘How do I start? Do I start asking you questions?’” Duff recalled. “She’s, like, ‘Well, people are going to start showing up to speak with you, and there’s someone here: Aaron with two A’s.’”
Duff subsequently questioned whether Aaron Carter came through, considering their childhood romance. (Carter died in November 2022 at the age of 34.)
“She was, like, ‘Sure is. What the hell is he doing here?’” Duff said. “I was like, ‘Well, that’s my childhood boyfriend. And, you know, that would make sense to me.’ And, she’s like, ‘Are you Hilary Duff?’”
Duff did not reveal what message Carter sent through the medium, though she noted that she still thinks fondly of her ex.
“I’m friends with Aaron Carter’s sister,” Duff told podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, referring to Aaron’s twin, Angel Carter Conrad. “Our kids go to the same school. She’s a lovely literal angel of a person. We’re very close, [and] we talk about Aaron often.”
Duff dated Aaron between 2000 to 2003 during their respective early careers in Hollywood. The “I Want Candy” rapper died two decades later in 2022.
Within hours of Aaron’s death, Duff shared an emotional social media statement.
“For Aaron — I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world,” she wrote via Instagram. “You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”
Aaron, who accidentally drowned in a bathtub due to the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam, is survived by 4-year-old son Prince, mother Jane and siblings Angel and Nick. The late singer is also predeceased by his father, Robert, and his sister Leslie. His sister Bobbie Jean died at age 41 in December 2023 just over one year after Aaron.
