Jesse Williams has reportedly received sole custody of the health of his and ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee’s two children.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch on Wednesday, March 26, Williams and Drake-Lee, both 43, appeared in court on March 20 to revisit their custody agreement. The exes share daughter Sadie, 11, and son Maceo, 9.
Williams and Drake-Lee presented the court with a custody plan where they would share physical custody with alternating weeks. The deal stated that neither the Grey’s Anatomy alum nor Drake-Lee shall have more than 14 consecutive overnight parenting times. The judge also rules on a schedule for vacation time for the parents.
“The parties shall have three consecutive weeks for vacation during the summer every year, with each parent choosing a week between their two custodial weeks to comprise the three weeks,” the judge said, per the outlet.
In addition to the custody plan, the judge granted Williams sole legal custody “of the minor children as to their healthcare,” however, the actor is required to inform Drake-Lee of all information regarding their kids’ health, education and welfare.
Us Weekly confirmed in September 2024 that Williams requested to alter the pair’s custody arrangement. The actor sought to modify his visitation amount and obtain equal joint physical custody. Williams claimed in the filing that he only received two overnight visits with his children during the school year.
“There is no question that spending more time with me is in the children’s best interests,” Williams said in the docs. “The children benefit from the love and stability I provide them, and they continually ask to spend more time with me. I am actively engaged in Sadie’s and Maceo’s lives.”
Williams accused Drake-Lee of blocking his FaceTime calls, barring him from attending their children’s activities and manipulating their vacation schedules to limit time with Williams.
“I have never refused Aryn access to the children. I constantly try to exemplify normal, healthy coparenting behavior in the hope that she will see it works better than chaos and conflict,” Williams argued. “Aryn’s conduct is the opposite – designed to frustrate my custody and impair my relationship with the children, and she has no concern of the impact her conduct has on our children.”
Williams and Drake-Lee met in 2007 before he began his acting career. The twosome tied the knot in September 2012 after five years of dating. In April 2017, Williams filed for divorce from Drake-Lee, more than one year after they welcomed Maceo.
After their split, Williams and Drake-Lee were engaged in a legal battle over their children. Williams wanted joint custody while Drake-Lee requested sole custody due to her ex’s work schedule. Three years later, the duo’s divorce was finalized.
