Coffee and panties aren’t two items that usually go together — but this influencer says otherwise.
Fitness coach and content creator Tara Woodcox has gone viral for a TikTok in which she advised her followers to clean their dirty underwear in hotel coffee makers.
In the video, which was originally posted on November 9 of last year but has recently made the social media rounds once more, Cox sits in front of the camera in a printed pajama set and kicks off the vid by saying, “I’m about to show you guys one of the coolest tricks ever.”
She then proceeds to tell her followers that if they’ve been traveling and forgot to pack enough underwear, they should use the coffee maker in their hotel room to clean their old pairs, placing the panties where one would normally put the coffee grounds.
“You close it, you press brew and it puts scorching hot water through it,” Cox says cheerfully.
She proceeds to suggest drying the now-washed undergarments with the hotel hair dryer so “you got yourself a clean pair of underwear to wear.”
While she said that she learned the “hack” from a flight attendant friend — laughing as she clarified in a February 23 Instagram vid that she’s “never actually done that” — some of her followers remained steaming mad at the unsanitary nature of Woodcox’s original suggestion.
“You told people to do something genuinely unsanitary,” said one Instagram user under the recent post. “That’s not comedy. That’s reckless and gross. This feels like backtracking now that the engagement shifted. Maybe just own it — this feels forced.”
“Lmmmaoo your fake laugh — ‘I don’t actually do that guys’ — like you didn’t expect it to blow up in the best way,” said another. “It BACKFIRED and you need to be arrested for what you’ve done.”
Others had more laid-back reactions to the viral vid.
“I don’t even think it’s disgusting,” added another Insta user. “It’s funny. It’s human. It’s authentic. It’s LIFE! It’s ‘don’t sweat the small stuff.’”
However, the backlash has been so overwhelming that some online users are thinking hotels may get rid of coffee makers in bedrooms entirely, as reported by The Daily Mail.
TikTok user @imthecouponingconnor recently posted a video with the text overlay, “Hotel Underwear Washing Machine Donation,” in which he filmed an inundation of coffee pots in rows at his local Goodwill store.
“Y’all, what hotel has donated every single one of their coffee makers to my Goodwill?” he joked.
“After the hotel underwear coffee maker-gate. I’m dying,” he continued.
The account @HustleB-tch on X also recently posted about the coffee maker-to-Goodwill pipeline and its possible connections to Woodcox’s vid.
“A woman walks into Goodwill … and immediately stops,” the account posted. “Entire selves packed with identical hotel coffee machines.”
“Right after that video spreads everywhere…hotel coffee machines start showing up at Goodwill,” the poster continued. “In bulk. Be honest, are you ever using a hotel coffee maker again after seeing this?”
