Thrice-elected Democratic ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo is getting torched for refusing to name a single member of the party he admires.
Cuomo — who is running for mayor as an independent after losing the Democratic primary — was asked in a recent New York Times interview to cite three elected officials he looks up to or aligns with politically.
“Admire? None comes to mind,” he told the newspaper, according to the article published Tuesday.
Critics online pounced on Cuomo’s tepid response, considering the 67-year-old political scion has been a lifelong card-carrying Democrat.
“At least he didn’t name himself,” one user joked on Reddit.
Another user in the same thread added: “He still thinks he has a path to President and didn’t want to hype a competitor lol.”
Others trounced Cuomo for the apparently ego-driven response, accusing the former governor of “maiming” his own dignity.
“His brain got locked into a loop of ME!” one user wrote. “That’s why he couldn’t come up with a name.”
“No principles, no loyalty, just out for himself,” another Redditor said.
“He’s not going to win, and he’s completely maiming the little bit of dignity he has left, as well as any remaining positive sentiment towards his legacy,” said yet another commenter. “It’s bizarre.”
Democratic operative Ken Frydman quipped: “Andrew Cuomo can’t think of a mistake he made as governor, doesn’t surprise me he can’t name a Democrat he admires.”
“Guess he’s gotta go back to Mario Cuomo,” Frydman told The Post.
Indeed, upon further questioning from the Times, Cuomo went on to list three deceased Democrats: his father ex-Gov. Mario Cuomo, former President John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.
Both Kennedy brothers were assassinated in the 1960s.
Pressed to name a living Dem, the Times said Cuomo eventually answered that Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker was “doing a good job as a manager of his state” and that California Gov. Gavin Newsom was “doing the best he can.”
“The Democratic Party is not meeting the moment,” Cuomo also told the paper, without elaborating. “I think the Democratic Party has created the moment.”
Before Cuomo was soundly rejected by voters in the Democratic primary, in favor of lefty firebrand Zohran Mamdani, the ex-gov had been able to name a role-model in the party.
During a debate ahead of the June election, he answered House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries when asked “who’s the most effective Democrat in the country?”
A spokesperson for Cuomo’s campaign told The Post Wednesday the former governor sees a distinction “between who you admire versus who do you think is doing a good job.”
Mamdani had named progressive Boston Mayor Michelle Wu as an “effective Democrat” during the same mayoral primary debate in June.
