Wicked: For Good has been called Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s “goodbye” to the characters Elphaba and Glinda, but is there a chance fans might see them again in a third movie?
Director Jon M. Chu was asked by Telemundo’s Irasema Torres at the sequel’s São Paulo, Brazil, premiere in November 2025 if he was considering potential spinoffs.
“As far as I know, this was always meant to be a two-movie experience,” he said of the possibility of a third film. However, Chu did give fans a small glimmer of hope about a future Oz-related project, adding, “Listen, you never know.”
Wicked: For Good continues the musical tale of Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande), as the people of Oz rise against the former, testing the protagonists’ friendship and morals in the process. The film features two new songs, “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble,” performed by Erivo and Grande, respectively, and is already generating Oscar buzz.
It’s been an unforgettable era of Grande’s life, made all the more special by the friendships she formed with her costars along the way.
“It’s been such an incredible ride and an incredible experience to create with people we love so much and respect so much creatively, but also who just have such great hearts,” Grande told E! News’ Justin Sylvester ahead of the film’s November 21, 2025, release, adding that fans would “finally be able to get the full story” and the “full arc of these women that we love so much and have spent these years with.”

Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande shared a clip via Instagram from a Wicked: For Good press event with Erivo in November 2025, which raised questions about whether this is really the end for the Wicked franchise.
“You mentioned ‘farewell tour.’ If we’ve learned anything from Cher, we can count on there always being another farewell tour,” Grande said in the clip. “So I don’t think anyone’s going anywhere.”
A moderator chimed in to ask, “Was that a confirmation of Wicked 3 just now?” to which Grande responded, “No, no, I don’t know. I mean, first of all, I know that there’s a great peace that’s coming along with this coming out and I think there’s a peace that’s felt, because people will finally get to know the full truth of these women.”
Jon M. Chu
Jon M. Chu left everyone talking at the Brazil premiere of For Good in November 2025 when speaking with reporters about the possibility of a third film. “This is the end of an era, but you never know,” he teased, adding, “You never know. People want that, but they have to see movie two first. Maybe the audience could tell us.”
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh, who plays Madame Morrible, isn’t ready to close the door on Wicked just yet. When asked by Variety if she would return for another movie, she revealed she would likely say yes.
“Why would I ever say no to Jon,” Yeoh said at the film’s New York City premiere in November 2025.
Bowen Yang
While his costars seem interested, Bowen Yang is not so set on reprising his character of Pfannee in a third movie.
“I think we leave it here,” Yang told Variety at the NYC premiere, before jokingly adding, “I’m going to pitch a Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead story with my and Bronwyn James’ characters, [Pfannee and ShenShen].”
