Dr. Wendy Osefo gushed about her and husband Eddie Osefo’s financial success on an episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac season 10 just days before their arrest for fraud.
Wendy, 41, expressed how “proud” she is of her husband amid the expansion of his Happy Eddie cannabis business during the Sunday, October 5, premiere of RHOP season 10.
“Happy Eddie is taking off, especially now that it’s in three different states,” she said. “Happy Eddie is — you know — financially successful. Cha-ching!”
Eddie, 41, was also beaming as he told their three children, Karter, 12, Kruz, 10 and Kamrynn, 6, about the business expanding to New Jersey.
“Aren’t you guys proud of me? I started with one state, and now I’m growing the business into multiple states,” he told them. “So you can now see, as an entrepreneur, when you put your mind to something, you can grow your business.”
RHOP season 10 was filmed between March and August. The first episode aired just days before Us Weekly confirmed that Wendy and Eddie were arrested in Westminster, Maryland, on Thursday, October 9. A grand jury indicted the couple on multiple counts of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and giving a false statement to police, according to court documents obtained by Us.
Wendy and Eddie were released on Friday, October 10, after posting $50,000 bond each, a rep for the Carroll County Detention Center confirmed to Us.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits,” a rep for the couple told Us in a statement. “They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
The arrests came after the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a reported burglary at the couple’s home in April 2024, according to the court docs. Wendy and Eddie claimed that several valuable handbags and jewelry items had been stolen and gave statements to insurance companies regarding the missing items.
Deputies became suspicious of the burglary claim due to records from stores where the allegedly stolen items had been purchased, as it was indicated that Wendy and Eddie had bought and returned many of the products for a refund.
Additionally, deputies obtained email correspondence between the couple, which showed that Eddie had asked Wendy if there were “additional high-value items we can add to this inventory listing (i.e., Chanel shoes, etc.)? I’m trying to get the total to exceed $423,000 which is our policy maximum.”
The investigation found that the Osefos were “burdened by substantial debt.”
After Wendy’s and Eddie’s arrests, RHOP alum Candiace Dillard Bassett told FOX 5 DC that she was “shocked” by the news, especially given the success of their business.
“That’s my first thought, that $300 and we’re arresting a mother and a father, business owners, entrepreneurs,” she said. “We don’t know what the charges are for but we know that the Osefos have a very successful marijuana business. They are providing jobs and opportunities for people of color in the area, in the DMV. My first thought is, ‘Are they being targeted, is this something that we should be thinking about?’”
Eddie, who also works as an attorney, launched Happy Eddie in September 2023.
“Last year I heard […] that I was called ‘Happy Eddie,’” he said during RHOP season 8. “So, when I was thinking about entering this industry, I said, ‘Hey, let’s use ‘Happy Eddie’ and let’s see where it goes.’ This cannabis industry … I think this is gonna be the gold mine.”
