Dennis Quaid has been married to Laura Savoie for five years and couldn’t be happier.
Quaid, 71, told Fox News Digital in an interview published on Monday, July 28, that he and Savoie, 32, are doing great. “My life is paradise,” he said. “Every day is paradise with her. It really is.”
“It’s the closest relationship I’ve ever had with anybody,” Quaid continued. “Every day is paradise. What can I tell you? I don’t know why God had waited so long to bring her, for her to come along, but [I’m] really glad he brought her into my life, or I walked into hers.”
The actor noted he’s not concerned about the pair’s 39-year age difference, even if others are.
“I haven’t spoken out about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. But I really don’t think about it,” he explained. “She’s got so much going on that, you know, I just don’t notice it. She’s just, she’s the light of my life.”
He added, “I wasn’t looking for it, and she came along, and it’s God put us together.”
Quaid proposed to Savoie in October 2019, when she was a PhD student at the University of Texas. A source close to the couple exclusively confirmed to Us that the engagement happened while the duo were vacationing in Hawaii.
In an interview with Extra that same month, Quaid explained the proposal “happened on the very northernmost point of Oahu, at Turtle Bay.”
“It was kind of spontaneous. It was very much a surprise,” Quaid shared with the outlet. “I had the ring in my pocket… It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan… I wanted it to be private.”
The actor added that Savoie was “actually taking a selfie of us, and I put the ring in front and said, ‘Will you marry me?’”
The pair tied the knot in June 2020. “It was beautiful,” Quaid told People of the wedding. “Just looking into her eyes, she was the most stunning bride.”
“I just love who she is as a person,” Quaid shared of Savoie. “Her character, her intelligence, of course, her beauty. And her point of view of the world.”
Savoie, for her part, added, “[I have] never met someone who is so in love with life. It’s like nothing can bring him down. Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me. It changes my perspective and it brings so much joy to every day.”
Savoie is Quaid’s fourth wife. He was previously married to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983, to Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001, and to Kimberly Buffington from 2004 to 2008. Quaid and Ryan share their son Jack, who was born in April 1992, and the actor also shares twins Thomas and Zoe with Buffington.
